Chapter 152

The two red-crowned cranes, one male and one female, looked like a couple.

Among the audience, several retired principals and professors from Jelasburg University sprang to their feet, voices trembling with excitement. “It’s said this animal brings good luck.

“Who is this girl? Her name is Nina, right?”

The old scholars all had eyes that sparkled with interest, each one eager to meet this mysterious young talent the moment the ceremony ended.

Just then, Ronan stroked his beard lazily with a smug look. Turning to his bunch of fired-up old buddies, he started showing

off.

He said, “Is this all it takes to get you worked up?

“Guess what? Nina’s my lab partner. We’re tight. She even brought me handmade animal snacks, made by herself. Not kidding.”

Ronan flashed his phone with pride, showing off the photo Nina sent him of the animal treats she made. They looked super cute and colorful-honestly, they would put most human desserts to shame.

The aged scholars instantly swarmed around, shoving up their glasses and practically lighting up as they stared at the screen.

Someone said, “Whoa, these treats look legit. Ronan, you got Nina’s WhatsApp? Hook me up. My grandson’s cat is a total diva-this could make that little thing happy.”

One of the professors leaned in even closer, gulped, and said with a serious face, “Can humans eat these? Well, even if not, it’s fine. Honestly, I just want to add her on WhatsApp.”

Nina watched as the two red-crowned cranes quietly landed right next to her, and her heartbeat sped up a notch.

These weren’t just any birds-they were rare animals.

This whole scene was getting crazier by the minute.

She had been totally chill while giving her speech to the entire audience, but the instant these two canes dropped in, she suddenly found herself getting flustered.

Nina took a deep breath, steadied herself, and spoke up with clear and unwavering conviction.

She said, “This is something I’ve truly always believed.

“The value of life isn’t about how rare or precious a species might be.

“It’s about the respect and care we’re willing to give it.”

As she wrapped things up, Nina breathed out in relief and flashed a smile. “That’s all from me. Thank you.”

She made sure to give her zoo a shout-out. “And hey, you’re always welcome at Forest Isle Zoo. Come witness the miracles

of life with us.”

The moment Nina finished her sentence, the red-crowned cranes next to her suddenly spread their wings wide.

Their feathers shimmered as their wings unfurled like billowing clouds-nearly 6 feet across, absolutely majestic under the sunlight.

At the same time, a flock of white doves burst out from behind the stage backdrop, soaring into the sky, swirling and dancing around the entire venue.

A hundred birds soared skyward behind Nina in a breathtaking spectacle, as if even nature itself was saluting her grand

finale.

The whole place erupted with excitement.

The photographers and media reporters raised their cameras in unison; the sound of shutters firing off filled the air as everyone desperately tried to capture every single moment.

On camera, Nina radiated with a bright smile as she ended her speech, her eyes shimmering with pure confidence.

Even in just a simple white shirt and jeans, draped in the grandeur of red-crowned cranes and swirling white doves, she was so stunning that nobody could look away.

Every single frame looked cinematic-each shot a viral masterpiece, iconic and unforgettable.

The head of the school media club was clicking away like crazy, muttering under his breath with excitement. “All thanks to Nina, the Jelasburg University welcome ceremony is totally going to be an internet sensation.”

Spencer turned to Wilfred with a smile. “So, what do you say now?”

Wilfred’s face flushed crimson, his eyes wide in shock. He struggled for a second, then finally blurted out, “What can I even say? This girl’s skills are incredible.”

Nina had barely stepped off the stage when a flock of birds surrounded her, leaving her no chance to catch her breath.

Instead of flying away, the birds landed in a neat circle all around her, and even those two graceful red-crowned cranes settled right at her side, giving the whole scene an impression of “high-level meeting”.

Nina felt a little flustered. She said hesitantly, “Uh, thanks for coming out today, my friends. Was there something you still wanted to discuss?”

As soon as Nina finished speaking, the whole flock exploded into a riot of chirps.

“Boss, you have to treat us well.”

“The white wagtails said you’re amazing and that you can fix us up.”

“You’re our boss now.”

At that moment, the head white wagtail swooped down, cleared his throat, and chirped with authority. “Quiet, everyone. Don’t just talk about conditions; talk about contribution.

“So, what can you offer our boss in return?”

A hummingbird, barely the size of an egg, zoomed out ahead of the pack, its tiny wings whirring so fast.

He said, “Nina, l’can help pollinate the flowers in your garden and gather the freshest nectar for you.”

Hummingbirds mostly ate nectar, and they looked really cute.

A blackbird said, “Boss, I can till the soil and catch bugs. I’m also great at mimicry—I can imitate other birds and even car

alarms.”

A silvereye said, “Boss, I’ll gladly be your fruit scout-I’ll taste-test every garden fruit and report back on which ones ripen first and which are the juiciest and sweetest.

“And if any nasty bugs try to sneak a bite, I’ll be the first to spot them for you.”

Even the turtle dove, perched off to the side, let out a slow, gentle. “I might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but I’ve got a sweet voice. I can greet you with a “good morning” at your window every single day.”

Nina listened to their increasingly earnest “job applications” and couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

The white wagtail strutted over to Nina, chest out and hopping with swagger. He cocked his tiny head, looking absolutely smug and clearly fishing for compliments.

He said, “How was that? Was that super impressive?”

Nina was at a complete loss. These mischievous birds really lived up to their reputations.

They read the room perfectly and seemed to know all the ins and outs of bird society, as if they had been magically sharpened.

She bent down and pointed to that new white building over there with a patient smile. “Look, my lab’s up on the third floor of Building S1, right at the very end.”

Her voice was gentle, like she was talking to a group of kids. “If any of you aren’t feeling well, or if your friends or family need help, just come wait for me on my lab’s windowsill.

“And if something’s really urgent, just let the white wagtails know and have them reach out to me at Forest Isle Zoo.”

The white wagtail immediately piped up, sounding a bit anxious. “Hold on, we have no idea where the Forest Isle Zoo is.”

Nina broke into a smile, her gaze sweeping over all the curious birds in front of her. “Thanks for giving me such a surprise today. How about I take you guys over to my zoo for some fun after this?”

Her voice was cheerful, full of encouragement. “If any of you buddies want to come along, feel free to join the crew.

“I didn’t bring any snacks with me today, but I’ve got loads of special bird treats at the zoo, all made just for you guys.”

The birds started fluttering their wings in pure excitement, breaking into a totally off-key but irresistibly happy chorus-like an impromptu flash mob bird band.

Amid all the excitement, the female red-crowned crane who had been quietly hanging back suddenly ducked her head, gently nudged Nina’s arm with her beak, and whimpered weakly.

She said, “I’m not feeling well right now. I need a doctor.

“My head’s all fuzzy. I’ve been feeling nauseous non-stop lately.”

Before she could even finish her sentence, her long legs suddenly went weak, and she toppled uncontrollably toward Nina.

Nina’s heart skipped a beat, and without thinking, she lunged forward, bracing herself to catch the crane as it slumped against her, the unexpected weight almost bringing her to the ground.
