The Fake Heiress and Her Purrfect Partner novel Chapter 23

Chapter 23

Nina paused thoughtfully before speaking. “Monkeys have an impressive memory for faces, and they remember them for a long time. They even hold grudges. Maybe you should think about it more carefully.”

She then asked, “Has any family member who looks like you ever visited Hilltop Monkey Sanctuary?”

She recalled that Hilltop Monkey Sanctuary had been established decades ago, dating back to the late 1900s.

The monkey keeper suddenly froze at her question, and then realization dawned on him. “Oh, my dad and I look very much alike. He used to be the monkey keeper here before me. In fact, he’s the one who helped me get this job.”

Nina snapped her fingers in excitement. “That’s it! Tomorrow, bring your dad with you to work and let him smooth things over with the monkeys. Maybe he can fix whatever grudge they have against you.”

The monkey keeper looked uneasy. “Wait, won’t the monkeys attack him then? Is that really okay?”

Despite his hesitation, he turned around and dialed his father’s number on his phone. “Dad, can you come with me to work tomorrow? I’m still figuring things out.”

The viewers burst out laughing in the chat.

[Looks like the sins of the father really did fall on the son.]

[He sounded so reluctant but still called his dad. That’s priceless.]

[The monkey keeper has become his dad’s understudy.]

At last, the confusion was resolved. Thanks to Nina’s explanation, the monkeys understood they had been mistaking the monkey keeper for someone else and stopped giving him a hard time.

Just then, Nina noticed a user named Yolanda flooding the chat with messages: [Ms. Summer, please let me go live with you too. It’s urgent! My hamster just made another mess. I caught it in the act.]

Yolanda even sent Nina a thirty-dollar gift, clearly anxious.

Nina remembered Yolanda as someone who had reached out for help before. She quickly connected with her.

Yolanda appeared on the live stream, her frustration evident. “Ms. Summer, remember I told you in a DM that my hamster keeps peeing by my bed?”

She pointed to a small wet patch on the wooden floor beside her bed and wrinkled her nose. “It smells awful.”

Seeing the wet spot, Nina grew suspicious.

“That’s way too much urine for a hamster. Usually, they only leave a few drops,” she said. “Have you taken it to the vet?”

Yolanda made a grimace. “I did. The vet said it’s perfectly healthy, no issues with its urinary system.”

“Where’s your hamster? Let me talk to it myself.” Nina’s doubts deepened.

Yolanda turned the camera toward the cage. Inside, a tiny hamster, about the size of an egg, was curled up in its little house, trembling.

“It’s so scared!” the little hamster squeaked.

Nina froze, her voice softening. “Little one, what’s frightening you?”

She spoke gently, trying to soothe the creature. “I understand you. Tell me what’s wrong, and I’ll help.”

The hamster’s trembling slowed, and it cautiously poked half its head out of the house.

Viewers and Yolanda heard a rapid stream of squeaks.

[What is this little hamster trying to say?]
