The Fragrance Queen's Final Note novel Chapter 113

Zander froze mid-step, his pupils constricting in sheer terror.

A sudden wave of panic crashed over him, his fists clenching instinctively at his sides.

Inside the hall, Helen was just as horrified as the man standing outside the door.

"Why?" she demanded frantically. "You love him! Why would you ever want a divorce? Queenie, have you lost your mind?"

"Mom, I've never been thinking more clearly. I'm leaving him."

Helen was frantic. "If your grandfather hears you say that, do you have any idea the chaos it will cause? Are you trying to give him a heart attack?

"You were the one who defied the entire family to marry Zander! You insisted he was the one. Now you're saying you want out? Queenie, how can you be so reckless?"

Tears welled up in Queenie's eyes, blurring her vision.

She didn't explain her reasons. For one, she didn't want to burden her mother.

Secondly, she felt she deserved the pain. She had been young, naive, and blind to his true nature. She didn't deserve sympathy.

"I was reckless back then, Mom, but I won't make that mistake again. I just need you to know my decision. Pretend you never heard this."

"But there has to be a reason! Is the honeymoon phase over? Queenie, I know you're not the type to just throw a tantrum. Why are you doing this?"

Helen was utterly devastated. She never in a million years imagined her daughter would utter those words.

"You loved him so much. Have you forgotten everything you went through just to marry him?

"Your grandfather made you stand out in the freezing rain for three days. Your father slapped you across the face. Willa and Jessica mocked you for being desperately in love, took photos of you at your absolute lowest, and posted them online for everyone to see. The family threatened to disown you forever. They threw every obstacle in your way, and you endured it all!

"Do you remember what you told me? You said you loved him so much that you'd walk through fire to be with him.

"You sacrificed everything for this man. Why are you throwing it all away now?"

A piercing, agonizing ache spread through Queenie's entire body.

Only now did she truly realize just how deeply she had been broken.
