Every window Queenie had climbed past was shut tight. This was the only one left open. She was completely exhausted, her body swaying precariously on the ledge.
Just as she was about to lose her grip and plummet, the man reached out and grabbed her, pulling her inside. Her body completely gave out, collapsing right into the man's arms softly.
Stanley was already used to his mother slipping women into his life at every possible opportunity.
But this was certainly the most creative entrance yet.
He let out a scoffing smirk. "Full of tricks."
The woman slumped against his shoulder, soft as a kitten, utterly defenseless and entirely at his mercy.
"You're the woman my mother sent?"
His voice was low and devoid of warmth, like an underground river running beneath ice. Queenie's mind was blurring and then sharpening in dizzying waves.
The drug was raging through her veins. Her vision started to lose focus, until all she could clearly see were those light-colored eyes staring down at her with cold calculation.
"N-no..."
She managed to murmur weakly. She wanted to explain what was happening to her, but her tongue felt tied in knots. All that came out of her throat were muffled gasps.
Stanley glanced down at the sexy slip dress she was wearing, using his cool fingers to lift her chin. "No? Dressed like this?"
He had to admit, his mother's tactics were getting better. The women she used to send would either throw themselves at him immediately or try every cheap trick in the book to seduce him.
It was always repulsive.
But this one—playing the innocent, fragile damsel in distress, looking like she needed protection while holding back some deep, hidden sorrow—was actually kind of effective.
"Don't waste your energy. I have no interest in women. Go back to wherever you came from."
Saying that, Stanley moved to push her away.
But as she stumbled, Queenie instinctively grabbed his collar, dragging them both to the floor.
He landed squarely on top of her. Their lips brushed against each other.
Stanley caught the faint scent of her perfume—a sweet blend of sea salt and red berries. For a split second, he was caught off guard.
