The four of them boarded the private jet together.
The aircraft featured two sections, with the executive suite located at the front.
The rear cabin was designated for the assistants.
Miles glanced back at the CEO, then silently made his way to the front...
Queenie took a random seat, noticing out of the corner of her eye that Stanley had sat down directly to her left.
She barely dared to breathe.
Jocelyn sat to Queenie's right. As soon as she settled in, she received a text from Miles.
"Jocelyn? What are you playing at? Can you stop causing trouble? You just had to bring her along, didn't you? I spend every day guarding the boss to make sure he doesn't get involved with that married woman, and here you are, practically serving her to him on a silver platter. Are you encouraging Mr. Zimmer to be a homewrecker? Where are your morals!"
After reading the message, Jocelyn stood up and said, "Queenie, Mr. Zimmer needs me for a second. I'll be right back."
Sitting alone in the executive suite, Miles was pacing like a cat on a hot tin roof.
When Jocelyn suddenly walked in, his anxiety skyrocketed. "Why are you in here? You can't leave those two alone back there. Something's going to happen!"
He moved to rush out, but Jocelyn blocked his path.
She pushed him back into his seat with an exasperated sigh. "Just sit down and behave. What could possibly happen? You think my cousin is going to sleep with her right here on the plane?"
The space on the private jet was intimate, making Queenie feel increasingly self-conscious.
With Jocelyn gone, the silence stretched awkwardly. After a moment of fidgeting, she scrambled for a topic to break the ice.
She cleared her throat softly. "Thank you for taking me to the hospital the other day."
"Mm."
Stanley offered a detached hum of acknowledgment.
He was flipping through a magazine.
He clearly didn't seem interested in chatting.
"...Did your boss ever mention me?" Queenie carefully weighed her words, deciding it was best to test the waters.
