Zander frowned, opening his mouth to reply. But Stanley smoothly cut him off. "He's talking to me."
With a subtle flicker of his eyes, Mr. Sawyer caught on and stayed quiet.
"Your tone makes it sound like you're terrified I might actually clear your wife's name,"
Stanley mocked.
"What nonsense are you spewing? I said we should let the cops handle it. If you're playing detective, what do we need the authorities for?"
Ignoring him, Stanley let his gaze drift lazily over the groaning crowd. "It's actually quite simple to find the culprit. First, common sense dictates the real poisoner wouldn't leave themselves out of the crossfire. Therefore, the guilty party is currently pretending to be poisoned along with the rest of you."
"Right! To avoid suspicion!"
Mr. Sawyer nodded in firm agreement.
"Second, sneaking a laxative into a shared dish with fifteen people watching isn't easy.
The person would have had to conceal the powder in their palm and drop it while reaching for food. Which means, if we check everyone's hands right now, whoever has chemical residue on their skin is our culprit."
Having laid it out, he turned to the manager. "You really should call the police now. Have them swab everyone's hands before anyone leaves the room."
Throughout this entire exchange, Renata had remained dead silent.
Now, she shot a terrified, covert glance at the man standing in the doorway.
Her chest tightened with panic and rage. She was seconds away from completely destroying her rival, and this arrogant stranger had swooped in to ruin it!
Internally, she was spiraling, but she forced her face to remain a mask of pained distress.
Thank god she had prepared a backup plan.
Just in case things went south, she had ensured she could walk away clean.
Slipping her phone out, she swiftly fired off a text message under the table.
Just as the manager finished calling the cops and the paramedics arrived in the lobby...
Word came rushing from the kitchen: the culprit had been caught!
