The Fragrance Queen's Final Note novel Chapter 88

"Miles, thank you for clearing my name today. I won't forget this favor."

Stanley glanced down at her. "Do you have a ride back? I can drop you off."

Her car was in the shop, and she had taken a cab here, so she was currently stranded.

Figuring they were somewhat friendly now, she didn't decline. Pulling open the door, she slid into the passenger seat.

After she gave him the address, the car glided onto the main road.

"How come you aren't with Mr. Zimmer tonight?"

She asked casually.

"I was running an errand for him."

She nodded in understanding and fell silent, her gaze drifting out the window.

He watched her in the rearview mirror. "I have to say, your husband's commitment to justice is quite impressive. Willing to have his own wife locked up just to appease the crowd."

Her nails pressed into her palms again.

She didn't rise to the bait.

"At Mrs. Zoffany's gala, I heard rumors about how deeply in love you two were. After observing it firsthand... it seems the reality is quite different.

I don't know if you love him, but I can confidently say he doesn't care much for you."

He let out a self-satisfied chuckle. "I suppose rumors really do stop with a wise man."

...

The car pulled up to her destination. Before getting out, she turned to him again. "Miles, thank you again for tonight."

He nodded, his gaze shifting to the building behind her. "Is that where you mix your perfumes?"

Purely out of politeness, she offered, "Yes, it is. Would you like a quick tour?"

"Sure."

To her surprise, he agreed immediately, cutting the engine and stepping out.
