Zander drove aggressively all the way home.
His face was as cold as a sealed iceberg.
Back at the Calvert estate, he slumped onto the sofa, his head tilted back. He pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to digest the churning, furious emotions in his chest.
Suddenly, a cool sensation touched the burning side of his cheek.
He opened his eyes to see Renata holding an ice pack, gently pressing it against his swelling face.
"Zander, does it still hurt? I really wish she had slapped me instead. A man's dignity is so important. How could Queenie be so cruel..."
Hearing her words, the anger in Zander's eyes flared even brighter. "If she were even half as understanding as you, I wouldn't be this exhausted!"
"Why do you spoil her so much? I think she acts this brazenly precisely because you let her get away with it."
"She knows I have too strong a sense of responsibility, so she acts without restraint."
"If you ask me, you should just teach her a lesson. A woman like that would behave once she's put in her place."
Zander sighed in absolute annoyance. "No matter what, I could never lay a hand on her."
Renata gently dabbed the ice pack against his cheek. "I just don't think it's fair to you."
"Don't mention her to me again. Oh, right, I have a top-tier financial convention to attend tomorrow. Dress up nicely and come with me."
Thinking of the phone call he had received in the car, Zander couldn't help but look excited.
Renata's eyes widened with surprise. "Me?"
"Yes."
"Would that be appropriate? After all, Queenie is your wife. You should take her." Renata feigned hesitation.
