The Jilted Alpha (Jaxon and Sable) novel Chapter 48

Jaxon POV

I’m furious with that piece of shit, Darius. I’m not even going to address him as an Alpha. He gives Alphas a bad name. His petty bullshit went too far. I look over at Sable. She is trying to hold in her pain. I pull her into my lap, and she breaks down again.

“I’m so sorry, baby.” I say, as I hold her. I rub her back as she cries into my neck. My heart is breaking for her. Drax wants to claw his way out and kill Darius. As much as I want to, I have to leave it to Crane.

He was dealing with him as Sable, and I walked away. I’m going to follow up with him later. My mate should have compensation or something to help ease the pain. I personally told my guards to pack up the pieces of the rocking chair. I want to see if we can put it back together again. It would be my gift to her for her Luna Ceremony, that’s if it can be restored.

“I just can’t believe they destroyed everything. My parents deserved better, Jaxon. They were good and kind. They treated everyone with respect and dignity. How could they forget? I don’t care if they hate me. But my parents should have been held in high regard to Alpha Darius. He shouldn’t have instigated the pack. All because we are mates.”

“Do you really think that is what this is about?” I asked her.

“Yes.” She said without hesitation, “He wanted me to be his chosen mate. He was constantly asking me on dates. I would always turn him down. He might be a good Alpha to his pack, which I debate now, but I never really trusted him.” She finished.

“Why didn’t you trust him?”

“I’m not sure. I don’t lead a pack or know much about finances, but stuff doesn’t add up with things in the pack. We are known for agriculture. That doesn’t make much to have so many of the luxuries the pack has now. Something about it seemed shady. I didn’t want to get caught up in it though. I stuck to training warriors.”

So, she didn’t trust him either. Right now, I’m glad she has trust issues with people. Even if that includes me. I’ll fix her trust issues with me tonight, but I want to talk more about her issues with Darius later.

“We can talk about that later, baby. Why don’t you tell me about what you could salvage from your cottage? Tell me about those memories.” I say, trying to get her to remember something happy instead.

She started explaining the pictures to me first. Some of her childhood stories are actually really funny. I love the picture where she is covered in mud, and she is holding a frog. She said her mother was terrified and her dad was laughing at how proud she was to catch ‘Herbie’ all by herself. He was the one who took the picture because of how adorable she looked. I have to admit, she looked adorable.

“I wonder if our pups will look like you or me.” She said casually, still looking at the photos.

My brain did a full stop. I haven’t thought about having pups. The thought never even occurred to me that we would have pups. Why would it? Giselle and I decided on holding off with having pups until Winter Moon was stable, but everything went downhill. After that, having a mate wasn’t on my wish list, let alone having a pup. Now, at the mention of having a pup, I have a deep-rooted desire to have a pup with Sable. Several pups, actually. As many as she wants to carry at least. I won’t force her to give me more than she is willing to have, but now I definitely want pups, and I want them with her.

“If we have a girl, I hope she looks like you.” I tried to sound casual and stare at her photos without looking at her, but I felt her tense and then relax.

“You want pups?”

I take the gamble to tell her the truth. I want her to trust me, even if that might be uncomfortable for me right now. “Honestly, until you said it, I didn’t think about it. I wasn’t expecting a second chance mate, let alone having a pup. But now that you say it, yes, I want pups. At least one of each.” I finished.

“I grew up as an only child. I might want more.” She teased and gently bumped my arm, “Regardless, I will read to them every night.” She holds up the book from her cottage.

“What’s that?” I ask, looking at the book.

“My dad, he used to read to me every night as a kid.” She held up the book, “First Edition of Werewolf Tales.”

“I haven’t seen that book in ages.” I said smiling, “My mother used to read it to my brother and me when we were kids. Then after my sister was born, she would read it to her as we were too old at that point.”

“I’m just glad I could save something I can pass on to our pups later.”

Curiosity piqued with me and I asked her, “Remember when I asked you to bring the items you absolutely could not part with from your parents? In hindsight, I’m glad I asked, but you never did share with me what you brought.”

“You never asked.” She said, her hand gently caressing the cover of the book she is holding. For her, it’s a great treasure, and I suppose it is.

“I’m asking now.”

She sighed, “I brought my mother’s mate ring, my father’s wristwatch, the three journals, and the last picture we took together before my folks passed away.” She said, and it occurred to me, that I need to give her the Luna Moon Crest. I made a mental note to get it out of the safe this week and have it prepared.

“Alpha, we are back at Winter Moon.” The driver calls out.

I simply nod my head, and I grab Sable’s hand. “Are you hungry? Do you want to eat in the dining hall, or do you want us to eat together in my room?”

“In your room would be nice. I don’t think I can ‘people’ right now.”
