The Jilted Alpha (Jaxon and Sable) novel Chapter 50

Jaxon POV

I have to admit, seeing Sable claim me with Giselle gave me an affirmation I didn’t realize I wanted from her. In fact, the fact that she isn’t mad at me over Giselle is also giving me the confidence to have the rest of the conversation with her.

We are walking towards the pack house, and I see Matt approaching us. “Alpha, Luna, how did it go?”

“Find Alpha Jasper’s phone number in the directory. I need to call him to collect her in a couple of weeks.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

Then Sable speaks up, “Don’t you find her story odd? It’s sounds like bullshit to me.”

Matt laughs at Sable’s bluntness. But I agree with her assessment. “I agree. She was kidnapped by four masked men and they tortured her because of Jasper? She didn’t tell us what they wanted. She didn’t ask us to call him. She didn’t try her family. Nothing. She just came here. It doesn’t add up.”

“Maybe it’s the chest bruising?” Matt said carefully.

“It could be, but her family would still be there for her, right?” I rebuttal.

“Her wounds are odd too. What’s the deal with the chest bruising?” Sable asks.

“Why are her wounds odd?” Matt asks. He’s not touching the chest bruising conversation. He remembers mine. They were almost black from the amount of times Giselle cheated on me with Jasper.

Sable answers his question though, “Her wounds are silver, sure. But, even if they would have been deep, it would not have caused serious damage. Everywhere she had an injury, was in a non-fatal location.”

When you are training to be a fighter, you learn about ‘kill-shots’. Places you could inflict injury to seriously damage an opponent. Thinking back, my head was still in shock that Giselle was here, that I failed to notice the placement of the injuries. Sable is right though. These were not fatal. The silver was slowing down the healing, but it would have healed on its own eventually.

“You’re right. They are not fatal. Something about all of this seems planned, but for what reason? I never pursued Giselle after she left, and I have never spoken to Jasper. So, are they plotting against Winter Moon?”

Matt gives me his theory, “Maybe it’s because you are about to surpass him in wealth and power, Alpha. Maybe he wants to suppress your ability to surpass him.”

“It’s a theory,” Sable answers, “But it doesn’t seem to fit, if you ask me.”

I’m curious and impressed by Sable’s ability to analyze situations. “What are you thinking?”

“Why send his mate? Usually, if you want to suppress wealth and power, you battle. ‘Winner takes all’ mentality and all that nonsense. No, this is about something else. That’s the mystery though, isn’t it?”

Everything she is saying makes sense. Alphas are more inclined to battle for wealth and power. It would have to be something else specifically that he wants. But what? What more could he possibly take from me? He already stole my first mate. I didn’t even fight him for her. It wasn’t worth it to me after listening to how Giselle spoke to him on the phone that night and the argument that followed after. All the insults she hurled at me made me realize there was no way to salvage our relationship. I accepted her rejection and banished her.

“I think you are right. That means Giselle is allowing herself to be a pawn. I think we need to have another conversation with her before we call Jasper.”

“You understand, I’m not leaving you alone with her, right?” Sable says.

“You understand how incredibly sexy you are when you get territorial over me, right?” I retort.

"You both understand how I don’t need to be a part of this fucking conversation anymore, right?” Matt says, laughing as I flip him off.

“Right, get out of here, Matt. Thank you for letting us know everything that happened today.” I told him.

“Sure thing, Alpha. Goodnight, Luna.” He says and takes off.

We finally got to the pack house, and I lead Sable to my room, which I’m hoping will be ours after tonight. We are holding hands, and it feels right with her. The more I accept our bond, the more I want it and her.

I need to tell my mate everything, and then I want to claim her as mine. Tonight. No more waiting.

“She’s beautiful.” Sable said quietly.

I’m surprised by the comment. “I used to think so too. I prefer brunettes with hazel green eyes now though.” I replied, smiling.
