The Jilted Alpha (Jaxon and Sable) novel Chapter 49

Sable POV

As if I haven’t had enough drama for one day. My emotions are still high from the destruction of my parents’ cottage. Now I have to deal with the ex-mate. Thank the Goddess I’m a warrior. I don’t know how many women could put up with this level of emotional stress.

To Jaxon’s credit, he didn’t hide this from me. Though, it did seem like he was bracing for an argument. I know that he said he was going to tell me everything tonight, but it may have to wait until the morning now. Nia is definitely not happy about it either.

‘Clearly, our mate needs to finish explaining everything. I’m desperate for us to be marked and mated to our mates, Sable.’

‘Patience. We have waited for twenty-three years. What’s one more night?’

As we are walking to the pack hospital, I feel like I need to calm Jaxon. I can feel the tension radiating from his body. “Thank you for telling me that your ex-mate is here. I appreciate that you didn’t hide it from me.” I said quietly.

He whipped his head at me, “You’re not mad?”

“Well, you certainly know how to get under my skin at times Jaxon, but no, I’m not mad. At least, not with you. It’s not like you invited her here. You also didn’t keep it a secret. If you had, that would have been a lot worse for you, and we would be having a much different conversation right now. You trusted me though, and I thank you for treating me like your mate.”

He stops and pulls me to him. His lips crash down on mine, leaving me dizzy when he pulls away. “Thank you. I didn’t realize how much I needed to hear that from you.”

“Come on. Let’s get this over with and we can get back to your room.” I said and he raised an eyebrow at me.

“We are definitely going back to our room.” He said, kissing me again.

It didn’t escape me how he called it our room. With his ex being back, perhaps we should make that move.

‘YES! MAKE THE MOVE! I WANT TO BE WITH OUR MATES AT NIGHT!’ Nia shouts in my head.

Jaxon chuckles, “Even I heard Nia. Sounds like she is onboard with us moving to my room.”

“Hmmm, one thing at a time, Jaxon.”

We approached the hospital, and Matt is standing outside waiting. His eyes grow wide as he sees me with Jaxon. “Luna! What are you doing here?” He said, trying to feign innocence.

I raised an eyebrow at Matt and smirked, “Really? As if you don’t know. Matt, I know you are smarter than you look, but don’t make me second guess my judgement of you now.” I said laughing.

Jaxon then spoke, “Matt, Sable is my mate and this pack’s Luna. I don’t want to keep secrets from her. I told her and she wanted to come. I won’t tell her no.”

Matt is looking at Jaxon with an incredulous expression on his face. Slowly, it morphs into a smirk, “It’s about damn time, Alpha. Took you long enough to figure things out.”

“Fuck off, Matt. Better late than never.” Jaxon said, “So Giselle…where is the doctor? Let’s talk to him first.”

As the doctor comes to the waiting room, he sees me standing next to Jaxon, with my hand in his. A smile breaks across his face. “Alpha, I’m so glad you and Luna Sable are both here.”

“Thank you doctor. I understand that Giselle is here. Can you give us a rundown of her condition?”

‘He said ‘US’, Sable! He is acting like our mate now!’ Nia said, rolling on her back in submission.

‘Could you please stop being a hussy? We need to pay attention. This is important.’

“Well, Alpha, Luna, Giselle got in shortly after your departure following breakfast time. The patrol guards didn’t recognize her and brought her in. She is severely malnourished and underweight. She also has silver wounds all over her body. Not deep enough to cause permanent damage, but deep enough to make me believe she was being tortured. I’m not sure what happened to her, and she refuses to speak about it, unless it’s with you.”

I step in, “How long before you think she will recover, doctor?”

“She is in bad shape, Luna. I would say at least a week before she can be well enough to be discharged and an additional week before she is recovered enough to leave and go back home, wherever home is for her these days.”

“So, two weeks total.” She must be in bad shape. “Why wouldn’t she have just gone home?”

Jaxon looked at me, “I was thinking the same thing. Why come here?”

“Alpha, maybe you can ask her. She didn’t want to speak to any of us. But Alpha, I suspect I may know the reason.”

“Go on.” Jaxon said.

“Chest bruising.” The doctor said and gave Jaxon a knowing look. Jaxon’s eyes went wide. I guess he understood. I clearly don’t.

“I’ve had bruises on my chest since being a warrior. What difference does that make?”
