For a moment, Elina said nothing.

Then she answered calmly, “If you’re going to treat a major collaboration like it’s a game, then I see no reason to swallow my pride over one of your threats. Either way, the outcome depends on your mood, doesn’t it?”

And with that, she hung up-without waiting for a reply.

She couldn’t bear to hear Jack’s overbearing, arrogant voice one second longer. She silenced the phone and set it aside.

The quiet in the room brought a moment of peace, but it also allowed doubt to creep in.

Jack’s threat to pull the funding wasn’t a small matter. For the hospital and the research project, it was a serious blow.

But Elina couldn’t bear the thought of bowing her head to him again—not after everything.

Still gripping her pen, she scribbled a few messy lines across a blank sheet of paper, lips drawn tight in thought.

She couldn’t afford to lose the funding—but she also refused to appear weak.

A solution began forming in her mind. She would find her own sponsor.

It wouldn’t be easy, but it wasn’t impossible.

And with the research seminar coming up that afternoon, she figured she could take a few minutes beforehand to speak with the director about it.

Decision made, Elina felt much steadier.

At 2:30, she arrived outside the hospital’s largest conference room and spotted the director already waiting.

“I need to speak with you about something,” Elina said after a deep breath.

Dr. Dennis beamed at her. “I actually have something to tell you first-and it’s good news.”

He took out his phone and pulled up a screenshot of a deposit slip. “The funding from Mansor Group for the research project is secured. And we have you to thank.

Elina blinked in surprise and looked at the image closely.

Chapter 88 A Sudden Reversal

From the watermark to the account details, everything matched Jack’s private account- information she recognized from handling business matters for him in the past.

“Didn’t Jack say he was pulling the plug? How did….?”

This wasn’t what she’d expected at all. She didn’t know what to say-afraid one wrong might undo whatever fragile arrangement had been made.

word

Dr. Dennis patted her shoulder gently.”He nearly did pull out. But then we got word from Mansor Group saying it was your endorsement of the project that convinced them to continue the investment.”

Her head was spinning.

Barely twenty minutes ago, Jack had called to threaten her coldly-and now he was spinning the narrative in her favor?

Why would he publicly elevate her like this?

What was he playing at?

She didn’t have an answer yet-but she knew Jack well enough to believe this wasn’t kindness. He was planning something.

Dr. Dennis noticed the way her expression shifted. His brow furrowed. “Something wrong? You didn’t know about the investment continuing?”

“Right… I didn’t,” Elina said, then quickly added, “I just wanted to tell you that if I join the case seminar, I probably won’t be able to keep doing training sessions with Mansor Group’s medical division.”

Dr. Dennis nodded thoughtfully. “This is more important. The training can be handed off to someone else. I’ll speak with the Mansor side myself.”

“You’ve been through enough with all this,” he added with sympathy. “I know the collaboration’s been difficult for you.”

A wave of guilt washed over Elina.

She hadn’t helped secure the investment. On the contrary, her falling-out with Jack had likely put the deal at risk more than once.

“Director, I should be the one to talk to them. It was my responsibility to begin with.”

Seeing her resolve, Dr. Dennis nodded. “All right. If that’s how you want it, I won’t argue. But if you run into any trouble, come straight to me.”
