Chapter 101

L.. I didn’t know anything about it. I was forced into a mate bond,” Lexie stammered.

Ugh! That’s so messed up! From now on. I’m your bodyguard. If any beastman tries to make you do something you hate, I’l! wreck them myself, Dory declared.

Seeing her mecha looking so cool and badass, Lexie’s eyes turned into starsshe was totally starstruck.

Hey, can I askdo you have a name?Lexie asked.

Of course! I’m Dory. I used to be Lilith Graham’s mecha. After she was gone, I ended up as an ownerless mecha.

Then that jerk Austin said he’d get me a new master. He wiped part of my memory and handed me over to you.

Austin said you were a female bot, but come on, master, you’re obviously a real female!

Seriously, what’s wrong with him? Is he blind or just braindead? Or maybe he’s so caught up in all his stupid stuff that he can’t even tell you’re a female?Dory muttered.

Ha! HahahaFaced with Dory’s questions, Lexie could only give a stiff smile, not daring to say a word.

After all, when she first ran into Austin, it was just when Ms. Graham died.

Ms. Graham was the last female in the Aetherion Interstellar Zone, and she died because of the Clyssia Virus.

That’s exactly whyeven if Austin had his doubts about her, he’d just brush off the idea that she could be a female, all because of that virus.

Besides, with Arthur running interference for her, she had even less to worry about.

When Lexie didn’t say anything, Dory walked over, pointed at Ares standing off to the side, and asked with a puzzled look.

Who’s this ugly freak?Dory blurted out.

Ares is my mecha now, too. It’s a biomecha. Dory, why don’t you say hi to it?Lexie suggested.

No way! I can’t stand how ugly it is. Master, just ditch it, okay? You only need me.

I used to be the mecha that protected Ms. Graham, you know. My skills are a hundred times better than this ugly freak,Dory bragged.

Eh?Lexie blinked, a bit thrown off.

Seeing Dory trash Ares so hard, Lexie was totally at a loss for words.

Just as Lexie was struggling for a response, Ares, who’d been silent, stepped forward.

It walked up to Dory, went down on one knee, and looked up at her, speaking in a deep, electronic tone.

Beautiful lady, I’m Ares. Sure, I might not be much to look at, but trust medon’t underestimate what I can do.

I used to be the protector of the secretive NineTailed Fox Clan’s chief. I’ve survived more battles and trials than I can

count

Honestly, strength and loyalty beat looks any day. Just give me a shot to show you what I’m made of.

So, gorgeous Dory, how about letting me introduce myself for real?Ares said.

Get lost!

When Ares started laying it on thick, Dory shot him down without a second thought.

She booted Ares out of the way and gave Lexie a thorough onceover with her mechanical eyes. The longer she stared, the more puzzled she looked.

What are you staring at?Lexie blinked, puzzled.

Lex, someone slapped a ward on you. My scans can’t get a full read on your body.

A ward? That must be something Arthur set up for me. He was worried someone might figure out I’m a female and try to hurt me, so he put a restriction on me.

Unless they do a gene test, no one can tell I’m a female,” Lexie explained.

No, that’s not it. Lex, if your blood ever gets exposed, the beastmen will instantly know you’re a female,Dory said.

Wait, seriously? That can happen?

Seeing Lexie was confused, Dory explained.

Lex, there’s a huge difference between female and beastman blood. Female blood has this sweet scent, while beastman blood doesn’t stink, but it’s not exactly pleasant either.

Actually, beastman blood has this strong, dominating smell. It just makes you uncomfortable.

Lex, if a beastman ever gets a whiff of your blood, they’ll instantly know you’re a female.

So you have to be super careful. Don’t get hurt, and don’t let anyone hurt you, ever,Dory said.

Her eyes were filled with worry as she watched Lexie, like she was terrified someone might hurt her.

It’s fine, Dory. Everyone around me keeps me safe. Really, I’ll be fine,Lexie reassured her.

Anyway, let’s change the subject. Dory, can you show me how to pilot a mecha?

Sure, no problem.

Dory and Ares were super patient with Lexie, never once getting annoyed when she picked things up slowly.

From the most basic controls to advanced combat techniques, they explained everything to Lexie and demonstrated it in person.

Even though Lexie had never touched a mecha before, she was a quick learner. With Dory and Ares guiding her, she quickly mastered the basic controls.

Under their guidance, she gradually got the hang of all the mecha’s functions and combat modes.

Every time she practiced, Lexie was totally focused. She understood that piloting a mecha was serious business, not just a

game.

What mattered most was that she needed to be able to protect herself, especially when it came to making a quick escape.

Lexie knew her limits. No matter how much she trained, she could never match the strength or reflexes of a beastman.

So for now, all she needed was to learn how to pilot a mecha. If she ever found herself in danger, at least she’d be able to make a run for it.

Seeing how seriously Lexie was taking her lessons, Dory and Ares got even more dedicated to teaching her.

They knew Lexie was special. If she ever got separated from the group, she’d need to be able to protect herself.

By the time she was totally wiped out, Lexie finally followed Ares and Dory out of the virtual space.

As soon as she stepped out, she saw that Cristia, who’d been hiding on her bed, had gotten way bigger. His nine huge tails were sprawled all over her bed, taking up almost every inch.

He’d grown, sure, but he still looked nothing like a human.

Apparently, the blood she gave Cristia earlier did something, but not much.

Lexie was just sighing to herself when Dory stepped up, grabbed Cristia’s tail, and hauled him off the bed, dumping him right onto the floor.
