Faced with this stranger’s insults, Lexie couldn’t hold back anymore and fired back, not caring about being shy in front of Austin.

Ugly female? What did you just say? What do those words even mean?Lexie shot back.

I’m telling you, you’re a toad pretending to be a frog, ugly as hell but still trying to act cute. Your mouth looks like a blown- up dandelion, your face is bigger than your ass, and your ass has a loudspeaker stuck in it.

Your legs are shorter than your neck, and your neck’s got a surrender flag dangling from it. Your mouth’s so tiny compared to your ass, and if you dig in there, you’ll pull out a whole pile of dumb.

With a mug like yours, you’d go blind looking in the mirror, jump in a river if you saw your own reflection, and scare kids so bad they’d crap their pants.

If being ugly was a crime, you’d be serving a life sentence, no chance of parole.

Seriously, with a mug like yours, you’ve got some nerve calling me ugly right off the bat.

Just so you know, I’m dropdead gorgeous!

After her rant, Lexie planted her hands on her hips, standing there all sass and defiance. She glared at Gary, who looked so furious he seemed ready to explode, like he might just bite her head off.

Who does this bastard think he is? I don’t even know him! And he just had to call me ugly right in front of the guy I like?Lexie fumed.

Calling her ugly was bad enough, but this jerk kept coming up with new ways to insult her.

She’d already made a fool of herself in front of Austin, so she might as well go all in now.

Her reputation was toast anyway.

Why bother playing nice or acting like a doormat? She figured she might as well go all out and roast him.

Beautiful? Yeah, right! You’re the real freak here! Ugly female, you’ve got some nerve mouthing off to me. See if I don’t rip you to shreds right now!Gary snapped.

Gary had never been roasted like this in his life. Since he was a kid, people only ever praised his looks, no one had ever dared call him ugly.

And now, this socalled ugly female actually had the guts to call him ugly!

Seeing Gary looking like he was about to throw hands, Lexie wasn’t worried at all. With Arthur and Austin right there, she figured if things got messy, they’d totally have her back.

So she didn’t even blink at Gary’s pissedoff face and kept firing shots at him, full blast.

What, you seriously can’t handle being called ugly? Most people are just being nice by not saying it out loud.

But just because folks put up with you doesn’t mean you get to talk trash whenever you want. Look at you, ugly as hell and not even smart enough to realize it. You’re straightup embarrassing all beastmen!

Gary’s face was livid with anger. He’d never been humiliated like this before, especially not by a female like her.

He gritted his teeth and growled, You reckless idiot, I’m gonna make sure you regret mouthing off to me today?

With that, he raised his hand, ready to show Lexie what happened when someone dared to cross him.

But just as he was about to strike, Cristia suddenly cut in, Gary, stop! Did you already forget what I just told you?

At Cristia’s words, Gary froze midmotion. He shot Cristia a look, his eyes blazing with frustration and fury.

Cristia, you’re really gonna defend this ugly female?Gary snapped.

Cristia replied, Why would I defend you instead of Lex? Gary, you were the one who started this.

What was your problem, going off on Lex for no reason? She’s a female, of course she cares about her looks, and you just had to call her ugly right to her face.

After all the crap you said to her, what’s wrong with her firing back?

You’re a beastman, and you’re picking on a female? You’re a total disgrace to beastmen.

I’m the disgrace? Cristia, you’re really calling me a disgrace over her?Gary stared at Cristia, incredulous.

Faced with Gary’s stunned look, Cristia didn’t even bother wasting words on him.

He stepped forward, dropped to one knee in front of Lexie, and looked up at her with a gentle expression.

Lex, my mate. It’s our first time meeting, hope you don’t mind I showed up late,he said softly.

What? Mate? Me?Lexie blurted out, totally floored.

She stared down at Cristia’s unfairly gorgeous face, pointed at her own nose, and stammered, still dazed.

Yes, Lex, you’re my mate,Cristia said softly, his voice full of affection.

With that, Cristia took Lexie’s hand and placed a gentle kiss on the back of it.

Wait, wait, hold on! Sir, let me get my words out first,Lexie interrupted, quickly pulling her hand back.

Lexie looked Cristia up and down, her gaze lingering on his ridiculously handsome face, then said seriously, So, Cristia, I

know you’re that purple ninetail fox I used to raise. The Ares told me you were its master.

Yeah, I did raise you back then, but you were just a little fox! When did we ever form some kind of mate bond?

Lex, it was in your dream,Cristia said gently.

Wait, in my dream?Lexie gaped, totally floored.

Hearing that, Lexie shot a look at Kaelen, who was squatting off to the side.

Ugh, that bastard Kaelen also formed a mate bond with me in a dream, and we even had a wild night together. Next thing I knew, I was knocked up with a mer egg and got stuck playing mom, Lexie thought, still dazed.

And now Cristia was saying they’d form a mate bond in a dream too. Wait, did he try anything funny with me in that dream?Lexie thought, her mind spinning.

Cristia seemed to catch on to her worries and quickly jumped in to explain.

Chapter 112

Lex, I swear, all I did was form the mate bond with you in the dream. I didn’t do anything out of line,he said, sounding genuinely reassuring.

Good. If you ever dare to pull the same stunt as that lazy fish over there, don’t blame me if I strip your fox fur off, Lexic shot back, narrowing her eyes at Cristia.

After shooting Cristia a warning glare, Lexie finally had a chance to look at Austin.

She looked back at Austin, who was still standing there quietly, and was about to say something.

But as soon as she opened her mouth, she suddenly realized she had no idea what to say.

If she hadn’t form a mate bond with Kaelen and wasn’t carrying a mer egg, maybe she’d actually be able to confess her feelings to Austin.

But now, she couldn’t help feeling like she didn’t deserve Austin’s love anymore.

Just a little while ago, she’d been looking forward to finally seeing Austin again. But now that they were face to face, she had no idea what to say.

Lex, are you alright?Austin asked, his voice gentle and full of concern.

II guess so,Lexie mumbled, not really sure herself.

Lexie barely managed to get the words out, stumbling awkwardly as she tried to answer when Austin asked if she was okay. She kept her head down, not daring to look at Austin at all. Right now, she just felt like she didn’t deserve him anymore.
