“Lex, I promise you, it’s not like what Nelson said. Those reclusive clans aren’t unbeatable.

“They still need to eat and drink, so even if they’re living in seclusion, they have to stay connected to the outside world.
“The only ones who can reach them are the Aetherion Empire and the Aetherion Federation. We cooperate with those reclusive clans, and there’s no need for anyone to fear the other,” Arthur said
“Really? Then why did Nelson say that after Ms. Graham died, those reclusive clans sliced up her body for experiments?” Lex asked.
“That’s bullshit! He’s just talking nonsense,” Arthur shot back angrily.
After his outburst, Arthur saw the shock in Lex’s eyes and eased his tone.
“Lex, don’t listen to that bastard Nelson. Ms. Graham’s body wasn’t buried on Dora Planet, but it sure as hell wasn’t cut up for research, either.
“After Ms. Graham passed away, those reclusive clans did take some of her blood, but her body was cremated ages ago.
“Lex, any female who dies from the Clyssia Virus, her body decays super fast after death. Not even freezing them could keep the body from falling apart.
“Ms. Graham’s body started breaking down almost right after she passed. To keep the virus from leaking out, the Empire had to cremate her.
“Lex, Ms. Graham is a hero to the Empire. No one would ever dare disrespect her remains, not us, not those reclusive clans, nobody.”
Arthur’s expression was firm as he said this.
Lexie could finally breathe easy.
When she heard Nelson say that Ms. Graham’s body had been cut up for research, it really freaked her out.
Thank god it was just a lie,‘ she thought to herself.
With that thought, Lexie turned and shot a hard glare at Nelson, who was just standing there pretending to be cool.
‘Jerk. Lucky for me, I never keep stuff to myself, if something’s up, I just aşk, Lexie thought.
If she were the type to overthink things or keep stuff inside, Nelson would’ve had her completely fooled.
When Nelson saw Lexie glaring at him, he scratched his nose in embarrassment and turned aside, not daring to meet her
eyes.
He’d always thought that, as a female, Lexie would be all sensitive and delicate, so after hearing what he said, she’d be hurt and freaked out for sure.
But what really caught him off guard was that, after hearing his half–truths, Lexie didn’t waste time feeling sad or scared, she just spilled everything, no filter at all.
Seeing Nelson dodge her eyes, Lexie knew exactly what was up.
‘He really was just trying to mess with me,‘ she thought.
‘Unbelievable. That’s so messed up,‘ Lexie fumed.

Chapter 121
After shooting Nelson another fierce glare, Lexie got up and reached for Austin’s hand, her voice gentle.

“Um, Marshal, I… I don’t think I can leave this island anytime soon. I should at least wait until the babies are born before heading back,” she said softly.
Lexie rested her hand on her belly, speaking with extra caution.
She might’ve said she didn’t want them in the heat of the moment, but at the end of the day, they were hers, no matter what.
Even if suddenly becoming a mom had her totally thrown for a loop, these babies were hers. Whether it was before she came to this world or after, they were her only real family now.
Lexie’s feelings about the little mer eggs were complicated. But deep down, she knew she could never bring herself to hurt them.
Seeing Lexie like this, Austin bent down and looked at her, his voice gentle.
“Lex, honestly, I don’t want you heading back right now. Until things between the Aetherion Empire and the Aetherion Federation are settled, I don’t want you getting mixed up in all that drama.
“Didn’t Kaelen say it himself? You can’t leave the ocean until the mer eggs are born.
“So just chill here and stay safe. With Kaelen guarding you, there’s pretty much no one out there who could touch you.
“While you’re here, I’ll head back and take care of all the chaos between the Aetherion Empire and the Aetherion Federation.
“Once everything’s sorted out, when you come back, you can finally relax and live in peace.
“Lex, believe me, it’s not just about duty for me. You really mean something to me.
“I like you, a lot. Actually, I think it’s love.
“Lex, trust me, okay? I promise I’ll keep you safe, no matter what,” Austin said.
“Yeah, I’ve always trusted you,” Lexie replied.
Seeing how certain Lexie was, Austin gave her a relieved, contented smile. He finally gave in and wrapped her in a hug.
Austin’s sudden embrace took Lexie by surprise, but a wave of warmth flooded her heart.
She rested softly against him, feeling the comfort and security he brought.
Being this close to the guy she liked made Lexie feel safe, but she couldn’t help it, her cheeks flushed pink with shyness
I’m so glad you’re here with me, Lex,” Austin murmured.
With his strong heartbeat thumping right next to her, Austin’s voice rumbled in Lexie’s car, full of warmth and satisfaction.
Lexie lifted her head, meeting Austin’s deep, mesmerizing eyes, her heart skipped a beat, moved by the look in them.
