Chapter 130
“Yes, Your Highness,” the Grand Elder said.
“Alright, I’ll accept Gary. Just don’t let him touch that gene regression potion again. He’s a decent guy, even if he’s got a smart mouth. I don’t want him dropping dead in front of me,” Lexie said.
When Lexie agreed to take Gary in, Gary, who’d been feeling anxious, couldn’t help but feel a wave of happiness, though the Grand Elder’s expression didn’t change.
Seeing Lexie accept Gary, the Grand Elder looked downright anxious, as if he was terrified she’d change her mind at any
moment.
He strode right up to Gary, snatched the gene regression potion from his hand, and tossed it aside. Then, grabbing Gary by the collar, he dragged him straight over to Lexie.
“Come on, kid, give your fox bead to Her Highness, now. Don’t drag your feet,” the Grand Elder barked.
“Fox bead? Oh, no, no, that’s not necessary.” Lexie said quickly.
Lexie knew exactly what the fox bead of the Nine–Tailed Fox Clan was for. Saving Gary was just a stopgap measure for her.
She just wanted to get through this mess for now, and once things calmed down, she planned to cut ties with Gary for good.
Sure, she had a thing for handsome guys, but she’d never thought of Gary that way. If she actually liked him, there was no way she would’ve poured ice water down his pants.
Now, seeing the Grand Elder make Gary hand over his fox bead to her, Lexie was practically recoiling in protest.
Seeing Lexie reject him, Gary felt a sharp ache in his chest. The female he’d finally caught feelings for hated his guts, how could that not hurt?
But after a brief hesitation, he wrapped his hand around the back of Lexie’s neck and kissed her right on the lips.
As their lips and tongues tangled, Lexie’s eyes went wide with shock, right then, the fox bead was transferred into her body.
Staring at that annoyingly good–looking face of Gary, so close to hers, Lexie didn’t feel even a hint of joy at being kissed by a handsome guy. All she could think was, ‘Ugh, this is seriously messed up.
Honestly, everything happening right now felt like it was all orchestrated by someone else.
And the ones pulling the strings? Cristia and Gary, for sure. Maybe even that stern–faced Grand Elder was part of their little scheme.
As Gary’s totem appeared on Lexie’s chest, her true beauty was revealed in an instant.
Seeing Lexie’s face, now more stunning than ever, Gary was totally mesmerized.
But Lexie herself didn’t even realize what had happened.
Feeling a weird sensation in her chest, Lexie shoved Gary away, pointed at him, and spluttered, “You… you…” for ages, but couldn’t get anything else out.
But when she locked eyes with Gary, seeing both guilt and happiness in his gaze, she was completely speechless.
After what felt like forever, once Lexie finally got her emotions under control, she glared at Gary and Cristia, puffing with

anger, and snapped, “Alright, spill it, was this all your plan?”
“Did you two set all this up from the very beginning?” Lexie demanded.
“Exactly,” Cristia replied without missing a beat.
“That’s right,” Gary said, just as straightforward.

Hearing Cristia and Gary just admit it so casually, Lexie’s feelings were all over the place, she didn’t even know what to feel.
That damn fox, he really had the nerve to set me up so openly, Lexie fumed to herself.
Unbelievable. They’ve really crossed the line this time, she thought, her frustration boiling over.
“Cristia, can you give me a straight answer? Didn’t you say you liked me? So why did you let Gary get mixed up with me?” Lexic pressed, her eyes narrowed.
“Because if Gary isn’t with you, he’ll die for sure,” Cristia said firmly.
“Why? If I just agree to be with Gary, we can be a couple in name only.
“I’ll do my thing, he’ll do his, and we’ll just stay out of each other’s business.
“That way, Gary doesn’t have to die, and I don’t have to open up to him or get all lovey–dovey. Isn’t that perfect?” Lexie argued, trying to make her point.
“No, it’s not,” Cristia shot back.
“Why not?” Lexie asked, totally baffled.
Lexie couldn’t help but ask, her confusion written all over her face.
“Lex, Gary’s totally fallen for you,” Cristia said, her voice both gentle and certain.
“What? He likes me? Seriously? That damn fox, Gary, calls me an ugly female every time he sees me. He’s always finding new ways to call me ugly.
“He acts like he can’t stand me, how could he possibly have feelings for me?” Lexie shot back, completely incredulous.
“Lex, if he didn’t care about you, he wouldn’t have used his own body as a cushion to protect you,” Cristia said, her voice soft but unwavering.
“That was just something that happened in the moment. It doesn’t mean he actually likes me,” Lexie retorted, still not buying it.
Hearing Lexie say that, Cristia shot Gary a resigned look and sighed.
“Gary, you owe Lex an explanation,” he said.
“Explain what? Like this ugly female said, I don’t like her at all. She’s so damn hideous, who in their right mind would ever catch feelings for her?” Cary scoffed, his words dripping with mockery.
“Seriously, Gary? If you don’t like me, then why the hell did you give me your fox bead? Is there something wrong with your brain? Lexie shot back, her disbelief clear as day.
“I was just trying to survive, alright? If I didn’t hand over my fox brad, you really think the Grand Elder would’ve let me walk

“I gave you my fox bead, so now you’ve snatched half my life and my good looks. At least this way, I get to keep living.
“Of course I’d take a deal like that, only an idiot would pass it up.
“So don’t flatter yourself, Lexic. I don’t do ugly females, especially not ones as tragic as you,” Gary sneered, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
