“Oh no, the water’s kinda cold. Gary, can you refill it with some hot water for me? But don’t make it too hot, okay?” Lexie

said.

Gary bit his lip, then just took the cup from Lexie and went to refill it for her.

But it didn’t stop there.

“Gary, this water’s got no flavor. Can you put some honey in it for me?” Lexie said.

“Gary, now it’s way too sweet. It’s kind of overwhelming. Can you make me some lemon water instead?” Lexie complained.

“Gary, I’m hungry. Can you get me some snacks?” Lexie said.

“Gary, my shoulders are sore. Can you give me a back rub?” Lexie asked.

“Gary, my legs are tired. Can you give them a massage?” Lexie said.

“Gary…” Lexie called out again.

All day long, no matter where Lexie went, she kept Gary by her side, happily bossing him around from morning till night.

Seeing Gary’s grumpy face all day really cheered Lexie up. All that frustration she’d been bottling up from tricking him finally started to melt away.

After a whole day of ordering Gary around, Lexie started thinking that making him her man might not be such a bad idea.

Honestly, a free and handsome housekeeper like Gary was one in a million; one couldn’t find another like him no matter how hard one looked.

As the sun was about to set, after Cristia finished up all his business and Lexie had her fill of wandering around, it was time for them to head back to Merfolk Island.

After all, she honestly couldn’t live without Merfolk Island these days.

“Gary, come here and help your lady up,” Lexie called out.

“Lexie, don’t you have your own hands?” Gary shot back.

“Grand Elder!” Lexie shouted.

Seeing Gary looking like he’d just swallowed a lemon, Lexie went straight to her strongest backup, the Grand Elder.

When the Grand Elder caught Lexie’s pitiful little look, he stepped forward and smacked Gary right on the head.

“You little fox brat, transform into your beast form and carry Lex on your back, now!” the Grand Elder ordered.

“Grand Elder, this ugly female is way too heavy. I don’t, ” Gary protested.

Before Gary could even finish, the Grand Elder smacked him hard on the head again.

It was loud, the Grand Elder didn’t hold back at all.

“Lex, here’s my elder’s staff. Take it. If that little fox brat Gary ever dares to disobey you, just give him a smack with this, he won’t even try to dodge,” the Grand Elder said.

Lex listened to the Grand Elder and took the staff he handed her. She couldn’t tell what kind of wood it was, but there was a red gemstone set at the top, making it look old–school but fancy.

“Grand Elder, if I smack Gary with this staff, he really won’t fight back or even try to dodge?” Lexie asked.

“That’s right,” the Grand Elder replied.

“Hehe, this is awesome. Thanks, Grand Elder! If Gary ever calls me ugly again, I’ll use this staff to smack his fox butt,” Lexie said with a mischievous grin.

As she spoke, Lexie pointed the staff at Gary, who was lying on the ground, with a super smug look on her face.

Seeing Gary all puffed up and totally wimpy just made Lexie even happier.

“Grand Elder, the fact that I’m a female is still a secret. After we leave, you really need to make sure your clan keeps it under wraps. If anyone spills the beans now, it’s gonna cause me a lot of trouble,” Lexie said.

“Lex, our clan leader Cristia already told everyone.

“If anyone dares to leak your identity, he’ll deal with them by the strictest clan rules.

“Plus, Cristia has locked down all the exits from the Nine–Tailed Fox Clan. Nobody’s allowed to talk to outsiders or leave the clan without permission,” the Grand Elder replied.

“Great, that settles it. Now I can stop worrying. Grand Elder, it’s getting late, so I should head back. We’ll meet again,” Lexie

said.

“Of course. Lex, if you ever get the chance, come visit us more often. And if that little brat Gary ever bullies you, I’ll make sure to pluck his fox fur and turn him into the ugliest fox around,” the Grand Elder said with a teasing grin.

“Sounds good! If Gary ever tries to mess with me, I’ll reach out to you and let you teach him a lesson,” Lexie replied.

“Deal,” the Grand Elder said.

After saying goodbye to the Grand Elder, Lexie waved the elder’s staff at him, then hopped onto Gary’s back, getting ready to head back.

Once they got back to Merfolk Island, Lexie glanced over at Gary, who was sitting off to the side with a sour look on his face.

She twirled the staff in her hand and asked, a little puzzled, “Gary, can you tell me, did the Grand Elder really give me this staff just so I could smack you with it?”

Gary just snorted.

“Hey, you…” Lexie started, but then stopped.

Seeing Gary’s sour face, Lexie shot him a look of pure disdain before turning to Cristia, who was sitting next to her.

“Cristia, can you tell me what else this staff is for?” Lexie asked.
