“Regular merfolk usually produce three to four eggs at a time. But for the royal bloodline, it’s rare, they can have at most two eggs, never more,” Arthur explained.
“Just two?” Kaelen echoed, worry creeping into his voice.
Hearing Arthur say that and seeing the deep furrow in his brow, Kaelen felt his heart leap into his throat with anxiety.
“Dr. Cole, is something wrong? It’s not Lex, is it?” Kaelen asked, his voice trembling.
“Lex is fine. Don’t jump to conclusions,” Arthur replied, trying to reassure him.
“Then… what is it?” Kaelen pressed, anxiety rising in his chest.
“I need some quiet. Please don’t talk,” Arthur said, his tone firm.
Seeing Arthur like that, Kaelen glanced at Lexie lying in the scanning pod, too nervous to say anything else.
Once the scan was finished and Lexie had left, Arthur finally set down the data pad and rubbed his forehead, looking a bit drained.
“Dr. Cole, now that Lex isn’t here, can you tell me if there’s something wrong with her?” Kaelen asked, his voice thick with
worry.
“She’s fine,” Arthur replied.
“Then why did you look so stressed just now?” Kaelen couldn’t help but ask.
Hearing Kaelen’s question, Arthur let out a long sigh, rubbing his forehead as if he had a headache before finally speaking.
“Kaelen, do you like little beastmen or little females?” Arthur asked.
“As long as it’s my child, I’ll love them. Dr. Cole, why are you asking?” Kaelen replied.
‘I just wanted to tell you, I prefer little females,” Arthur said.
‘And then?” Kaelen urged, unable to hold back his curiosity.
‘My dream is coming true,” Arthur said, excitement flickering in his eyes.
“What?” Kaelen blurted out, completely caught off guard.
Kaelen stared at Arthur, stunned and unable to react for a long moment.
What could possibly make his dream come true? Wait, could it be… Kaelen’s mind spun.
Suddenly, realization dawned, and Kaelen’s eyes lit up.
“Dr. Cole, are you saying Lex’s child is a little female?” Kaelen asked, his voice trembling with hope.
“From what I can see right now, it looks like one of your mer eggs is very likely to hatch into a little female,” Arthur said.
“But I can’t say for sure what the final outcome will be. After all, Lex has three eggs inside her, and I’ve only managed to scan
one of them.

Chapter 133
“The other two are hidden behind the first, so I can’t get a clear look at them,” Arthur explained.
Kaelen blinked, just staring at Arthur, completely stunned and unable to react for a while.

“So there’s a little female, and the other two eggs are hidden behind the first one?” Kaelen echoed, his voice trembling with excitement.
“Dr. Cole, are you saying Lex and I might really have three, three mer eggs?” Kaelen asked, eyes wide in disbelief.
As he spoke, Kaelen couldn’t help but break into a huge, excited grin.
Three eggs, whether they’re little beastmen or little females, they’re all his kids.
And their merfolk clan would never have to worry about their lineage dying out again.
Seeing Kaelen so happy, Arthur looked confused and asked,
“Kaelen, your merfolk are strong. Normally, when a female carries royal eggs, those eggs would drain her life force.
“But I just checked Lex, and even though she’s carrying three eggs, she’s totally fine, there’s not a single problem with her body.
“Except for being hungry, she’s not affected at all. Her life force is totally untouched,” Arthur said.
“Kaelen, you’re the king of the merfolk, and you were born with all the memories and heritage of the royal line.
“Any idea why this is happening? Why aren’t the eggs affecting Lex at all?” Arthur asked.
Kaelen forced down his grin, then pulled open his shirt to show Arthur the same mark Lexie has on her chest.
“Look!” Kaelen said.
Arthur blinked at the mark, totally confused. “What does this mean?” he asked, his brows furrowed.
‘Let me explain the mate bond between me and Lex,” Kaelen said. “When we formed our bond, according to merfolk tradition, once we’re bound, she gets half of my lifespan and good looks.
‘And that’s not all. Once the bond is sealed, if Lex ever gets hurt, I can use the mer pearl to transfer her injuries to myself.
“So even though she’s carrying my eggs, she just gets a little hungry and moody at first.
‘After that, as long as I’m around, nothing can hurt my mate.
“All the pain of carrying the eggs gets transferred to me, so Lex is totally fine,” Kaelen explained.
Arthur blinked, still a bit lost. “Mer pearl?”
He paused for a moment, then looked at Kaelen, confusion written all over his face.
“So, does the fox bead that Cristia and Gary gave Lex work the same way?” Arthur asked.
“That’s right,” Kaelen replied. “The fox bead from the nine–tailed fox clan does the same thing as my mer pearl. When we give Lex our own beads and pearl, it means we’re handing over everything, our lives, our strength, all of it.
“For us merfolk, the mate bond isn’t about dying together. It’s about the beastman taking every bit of pain for his mate.”
