Chapter 136
Chapter 136
Arthur’s expression froze for a moment when he heard Gary say that.
‘Mind–reading? The Snow Wolf Clan can actually read minds?‘ Arthur thought, surprised.
‘But whose mind did he read to find out about Lex?‘ he wondered.
‘Was it Nelson? Or Marshal Drake?‘ he thought.
‘Whoever it was, I need to contact them as soon as possible and tell them what’s going on here,‘ Arthur decided.

With that in mind, Arthur reached out to Nelson first and explained the whole situation about Kaelis from the Snow Wolf Clan. Nelson was adamant, he’d never met any beastman from that clan.
If Nelson hadn’t met him, then there’s no way Kaelis could’ve read his mind.
So if it wasn’t Nelson, the only one left was Austin. He must’ve run into Kaelis, and that was how his mind got read.
Thinking this through, Arthur wasted no time and immediately contacted Austin.
At first, no one picked up. Arthur kept trying, and after several attempts, someone finally answered.
“Austin, I need to tell you something really important,” Arthur said urgently.
“Dr. Cole, what can I do for you?” the voice on the other end replied.
Hearing that familiar voice, but catching a tone that was nothing like usual, Arthur frowned, sensing something was off.
He hesitated for a moment before finally speaking to the person on the other end.
“Austin, didn’t you ask me to get the merfolk’s sacred treasure from Kaelen last time? Well, I’ve got it now.
“So, when are you coming to Merfolk Island to pick up the treasure?” Arthur asked.
“I’ve got something going on today. I’ll come by tomorrow and contact you then,” Austin replied.
“Alright, I’ll be waiting for you,” Arthur said.
After that brief exchange, Arthur’s brow furrowed instantly.
Seeing Arthur’s expression change, Kaelen, who was standing right next to him, hurriedly asked, “Dr. Cole, is something wrong?”
“That’s right. If I’m not mistaken, something’s definitely happened to Marshal Drake,” Arthur said.
“What?” Kaelen stared at Arthur, completely confused.
“Austin and I never once talked about coming to Merfolk Island to take your merfolk treasure,” Arthur said, shaking his head.
“I tried probing him a bit, and the guy on the other end sounded exactly like Austin, he said he’d come tomorrow to pick up the treasure.
“Kaelen, someone’s pretending to be Austin and talking to me using his Optic Brain. If they’ve got his device, then where’s
Austin himself?

“Marshal Drake isn’t someone you can just mess with, who in the world could actually get the drop on him and steal his Optic Brain?
“If he was still himself, who could possibly snatch his Optic Brain and fake his voice to call me?
“So, something must’ve happened to him,” Arthur continued.
Just thinking about Austin being in danger made Arthur’s aura turn downright frigid.
There were very few people Arthur truly admired in his life, but Austin was at the very top of that list.
Even though Austin wasn’t that old, no one could hold a candle to him when it came to character and responsibility.
If anyone dared to hurt Austin, Arthur would never let them get away with it.
“Kaelen, I need to borrow something from the merfolk for a bit. I’ll give it back after tomorrow,” Arthur said.
“Anything but Lex, take whatever you want. I don’t care about the rest,” Kaelen replied.
“Perfect. I’ll use your stuff to mess with that fake Marshal Drake. I want to see who’s got the nerve to hurt Marshal Drake and try to pass themselves off as him.
“If anything happens to Marshal Drake, I swear I’ll make them pay with their life,” Arthur said, his voice icy and resolute.
Gary’s voice was low and grave as he spoke up from the side.
“I bet the one pretending to be Marshal Drake is that mangy wolf.
“No one else would dare hurt Marshal Drake. If he really laid a hand on Marshal Drake, you don’t even need to say a word, we’ll deal with him ourselves.
“Back then, all the reclusive clans agreed: no matter what, nobody touches Marshal Drake.
“If anyone dares to hurt Marshal Drake, they’ll become public enemy number one among all the big clans in the Aetherion Interstellar Zone.
“So, Dr. Cole, I’ll help you out tomorrow. Not for any other reason, just I’ve crossed paths with that mangy wolf Kaelis
before.
“I know a bit about him, so if he really did hurt Marshal Drake, it’ll make things a lot easier if you need to go after him,” Gary said.
Hearing Gary say that, Arthur gave him a grateful nod.
After all, he didn’t know much about that beastman Kaelis, and he had got that mind–reading ability on top of everything else.
With Gary’s help, it’ll be a lot easier to catch him.
Lexie had no idea that anything had happened to Austin. The next morning, after she woke up, she tried to contact him
again

But after she finished her brief message and the call ended, Lexie just sat there, holding her Optic Brain, lost in thought.
Was it just me, or did Marshal Drake sound really strange today?‘ Lexie wondered, unable to shake the uneasy feeling in her
