The Last True Female (Lexie) (by Sylvia Vance) novel Chapter 138

Chapter 138

As consciousness faded, Lexie saw someone rushing toward her.

But her last sight was of Austin lying on the ground.

Garyhe actually killed Marshal Drake,’ she thought in disbelief.

Why? Why would he hurt Marshal Drake for no reason?she wondered.

Why

LexArthur called out softly.

Arthur glanced at Lexie lying on the ground. He didn’t have time to check if the standin posing as Austin was truly dead.

He yanked Gary out of his way and hurried over to Lexie’s side.

Seeing Lexie’s pale face, just as Arthur was about to scoop her up and leave, his gaze landed on Kaelen’s equally pale face.

Kaelen, what’s wrong?Arthur asked.

Lex was just hit hard, and both she and the mer egg took quite a blow. Now, all the pain Lex suffered got passed on to me through the mer pearl,Kaelen replied.

Hearing Kaelen say that, and seeing how pale he looked, with his hands shaking, Arthur felt a wave of worry hit him.

Looking down at Lexie passed out in his arms, Arthur asked, a bit uneasy, So, if you’re hurt, does that mean Lex’s safe now?

What do you think? Like I’d ever let anything happen to my mate or our baby mer egg,Kaelen shot back, his voice tight with frustration.

Hearing Kaelen’s sharp reply, Arthur finally felt his nerves start to settle.

Whatever. The only one I really care about is Lexie. As long as she’s okay, whether Kaelen gets hurt or notI couldn’t care less, Arthur thought.

Not my concern at all, he added inwardly.

He’s a beastman. A few scrapes won’t even slow him down, Arthur thought with a mental shrug.

After tossing Kaelen a token pat on the back, Arthur scooped up Lexie and started walking away. He’d barely taken a few steps when Gary and Cristia’s angry voices rang out behind him.

The standin got away!Cary shouted.

He was faking it!Cristia yelled.

Hearing their angry shouts, Arthur glanced back at the empty ground, but didn’t say a word.

Now that Arthur knew Austin was in trouble, he had to send someone to the Aetherton Empire ASAP to see what the hell was going on over there.

After Arthur laid Lexie down in the medical bay and checked her over carefully, he was relieved to see she was perfectly fine. He couldn’t help but be impressed by just how incredible Kaelen’s mer pearl was.

Lexie had looked ghostly pale just a moment ago, but now her cheeks had regained their color, she looked so much better.

With Kaelen’s mer pearl around, Arthur was sure nothing could ever happen to Lexie.

Right now, Arthur, Kaelen, and Lexie were stuck on Merfolk Island, so the only ones who could actually leave were Gary and Cristia.

The NineTailed Fox Clan had deep ties with the Aetherion Empire, so with Austin in trouble, sending Gary and Cristia made perfect sense.

Still, he couldn’t just send only those two, Arthur needed to dispatch more people to the Aetherion Empire to guarantee Austin’s personal safety.

With that in mind, Arthur activated his Optic Brain and called up a contact.

William, I need you and Serenus to take care of something for me,Arthur said.

Make it quick, and no matter what, keep Marshal Drake safe,Arthur added.

Lex’s fine here. In five months, I’ll bring her back to the Empire, but not yet,Arthur said.

Alright, understood. And listen, if that standin was sent by Kaelis from Snow Wolf Clan, don’t kill him unless you absolutely have to,Arthur warned.

I still need the Snow Wolf Clan for my own plans. If you take them out, it’ll cause a lot of trouble for us.

Most importantly, you might not even be able to take them on. Your job is to keep Marshal Drake safe, got it?Arthur emphasized.

Once things are safe for Lex here, I’ll get her out of this place,Arthur said.

Alright,Arthur finished.

Just as Arthur hung up and glanced up, he saw that Lexie had already come to.

Lex, you’re awake! Are you feeling alright? Any pain anywhere? Headache? Is your stomach bothering you?Arthur asked, worry etched on his face.

Lexie stayed silent for a long moment, still reeling from everything. When she finally managed to collect herself, she looked at Arthur, her expression uncertain, and asked cautiously,

Did I really see Gary kill Marshal Drake just now? Was that real, or was I just imagining things?Lexie’s voice trembled as she spoke.

Lex, that was just a standin. It wasn’t Marshal Drake. Come on, Austin’s the Marshal of the Empire. There’s no way Gary could ever measure up to him,” Arthur explained.

Marshal Drake’s insanely strong. Gary alone wouldn’t even be a threat to him, no way he could take him down, much less kill him.

And really, why would Gary just go after Marshal Drake out of the blue?Arthur added.

Sowhat was that all about just now?Lexie asked, her voice shaky.

Arthur sighed, then finally spilled the whole story to Lexie about what really happened with Austin.

After hearing Arthur’s explanation, Lexie let out a long sigh of relief. Then she told him about her conversation with Nelson earlier that morning.

Wait, you mean Prince Nelson has already gone to the Empire?Arthur asked, his eyes widening in surprise.
