I don’t know what you went through, or what kind of hardships you had to endure before you met me.

Lex, I don’t press you for answers, but that doesn’t mean I don’t care. I believe that one day, when you finally trust me enough, you’ll want to share your story with me willingly.

Where are you from? Why is the Clyssia Virus not something you fear? How did a young female like you end up on Dora Planet, with all its dangers?

Back then, you didn’t even know the basics of interstellar speech. You kept your guard up around everyone, afraid someone would bring up your past, but at the same time, you were touched whenever someone showed you kindness.

Lex, seeing you like this really breaks my heart.

But that’s all behind you now. I’m here for you, and I’ll make sure everyone knows, if anyone tries to hurt you, they’re making an enemy of me, Marshal Drake.

Lex, trust me. I swear I’ll make it happen. You have to believe me, I’ll keep you safe, no matter what,Austin continued.

Lexie listened to Austin’s words, and she was so touched that she couldn’t hold back her tears anymore.

She had never talked to anyone about her past, and as for her transmigration, it was something she simply couldn’t bring herself to mention.

She always thought no one would ever notice, but Austin did. He remembered, he cared, and he kept it close to his heart.

With someone caring for her like this, how could her heart not flutter?

Austin, in five months, I’ll be waiting for you to bring me home, she said softly.

Five months from now, I’ll be there to take you home. That’s a promise,Austin replied, his voice steady and full of determination.

After ending the call and finding out Austin was okay, Lexie’s mood instantly brightened.

Lexie had just reached Arthur’s room, eager to share the good news, when voices drifting out from inside made her pause at he doorway, instinctively holding her breath.

Kaelen, you used the mer pearl to transfer Lex’s pain onto yourself. You’re not in great shape right now, can you really hold ip?Arthur asked, concern clear in his voice.

I have to hold up! Lex is my mate, and she’s carrying my mer eggs. If I can’t share her pain, would I even deserve to be her nate?

Honestly, I’m just grateful I can use the mer pearl to take her pain. Otherwise, a female carrying the mer egg would be uffering so much.

To be real, being able to take some of Lex’s pain actually makes me feel good,Kaelen said.

You’re clearly hurting, but you’re still pretending to be happy. Kaelen, I never thought you’d be such a lovesick fool,Arthur eased.

For Lex, I’d gladly be a lovesick fool. Unlike you, Arthur, you’re destined to be a loner for life,Kaelen shot back.

Just get lost!Arthur snapped.

Kaelen just snickered.

Listening to Kaelen and Arthur talking inside, Lexie instinctively pressed her hand to her chest.

Kaelen’s mer pearl was resting right there.

She used to hate how Kaelen had used the merfolk’s charming technique to force her into a mate bond, and how he made her become a mom way too soon.

But now, hearing that Kaelen actually used the mer pearl to bear the pain of her carrying the mer egg, Lexie’s emotions were a tangled mess.

Pressing her hand to her chest, Lexie couldn’t help but wonder to herself, Do I really hate Kaelen?

She could honestly say she didn’t hate him.

But did she actually like him? Lexie wasn’t sure if what she felt for Kaelen was even real affection.

With their mer eggs about to be born, it was time for Lexie to figure out how she truly felt about Kaelen.

Not wanting to deal with her feelings for Kaelen right now, Lexie quietly stepped outside.

Hearing footsteps retreating outside the room, Arthur looked at Kaelen, raised an eyebrow, and said quietly.

Lex left,” Arthur said.

I know,Kaelen replied.

You’re not going after her?Arthur asked.

What’s the point of chasing after her right now?Kaelen replied, his expression grim.

Kaelen’s face was tense, his voice low and serious.

What are you waiting for? Go after her and tell Lex how you really feel!Arthur said, half exasperated.

But what if Lex doesn’t want me to confess? What if she hates it?Kaelen muttered, sounding unsure.

Then just keep at it! Kaelen, you’re a beastman, if you want your mate, you gotta be thickskinned and shameless about it.

Seriously, just keep confessing, don’t worry about your pride. After a few tries, maybe Lex will finally start to see you in a new light.

Listen, when a beastman is chasing a female, pride is useless. Your mate matters way more than your ego, got it? Arthur said.

Can I really do that?Kaelen muttered, uncertainty written all over his face.

After hearing Arthur’s advice, Kaelen hesitated, clearly doubting himself.

How are you supposed to know if it works if you don’t even give it a shot? Kaelen, Lex totally goes for a pretty face. And let’s

be real, you’re hot as hell. So why not crank up the charm and use those killer looks to reel her in?

Trust me, as long as you go all out and play up your sexy side, Lex won’t be able to resist you,Arthur said.

Chapter 140

Really?Kaelen asked, sounding kinda skeptical.

Duh, absolutely true!Arthur replied with a grin.

Seeing how confident Arthur was, Kaelen turned to check himself out in the mirror.

Huh, not bad. I really do look pretty damn good,he thought, admiring himself.

Maybe I really should give it a shot,’ he mused, feeling a bit more confident.

Lexie sat alone by the sea, feeling gloomy, idly casting her line into the water. Suddenly, her fishing rod gave a sharp tug.

She reeled in the line quickly, but when she saw a pearl necklace hanging from the hook, her face shifted instantly from excitement to exasperation.

Kaelen, is that you?Lexie called out, her voice already sounding annoyed.

Kaelen, come on, I know it’s you. Who the hell goes fishing and ends up catching a pearl necklace? Are you messing with me or what!

Get up here already! I know you’re hiding down there in the water, so stop playing around and come out!Lexie continued.

As Lexie’s exasperated voice faded, the oncecalm surface of the water rippled slightly.

The next second, Lexie was hit with a scene straight out of a fantasy, a dropdead gorgeous merman rising from the water, looking like he was taking a bath under the open sky.

Staring at the merman with his sleek black tail and a face so stunning it could stop time, Lexie’s anger melted away, replaced by pure awe and fascination.

Seriously, Kaelen, that’s so unfair! Who even tries to win me over by going fullon seduction mode with those looks?Lexie grumbled inwardly, her heart skipping a beat.

She was a total facecon, no, not just a little, she was absolutely weak for a gorgeous face,

And now, seeing Kaelen obviously putting on the charm and acting all shy and adorable right in front of her, Lexie’s expression instantly turned awkward, she just couldn’t keep her cool.

She cleared her throat awkwardly before glancing back at Kaelen.

Um, Kaelen, maybe you should come up to the shore?she said, trying to play it cool.

Alright, LexKaelen replied, his voice gentle and a little shy.

Lexie couldn’t figure out why, but Kaelen’s voice, though exactly the same as always, had this slight upward lilt at the end, like he was acting all cute and a little coquettish.

Honestly, it was justseriously captivating.
