As Kaelen stepped onto the shore, his fishtail instantly turned into a pair of long, straight legs. He walked right up to Lexie, buck naked, and stood there in front of her, not the least bit embarrassed.

Lexie stared at Kaelen standing before her, her eyes tracing up his long, straight legs.

When her gaze landed on that unmentionable place, she blanked out for a second. Then, when Kaelen let out an awkward cough, Lexie quickly dropped her head.

“Lex, you…” Kaelen started, his voice trailing off.

“It’s fine. Kaelen, the sea breeze is cold at night. Come, sit down,” Lexie said, patting the spot next to her.

She pulled a blanket out of her storage space and handed it to him, a little embarrassed.

Lexie couldn’t shake the feeling that Kaelen was giving her those subtle come–ons all night. Maybe she was just overthinking it, but the way he acted kept making her heart skip a beat.

Not gonna lie, with that ridiculously handsome face of his, Lexie was a total sucker for his moves.

Lexie hesitated, unsure what to say next, when Kaelen broke the silence.

“Lex…” he said softly.

“Yeah? What is it?” Lexie replied.

“Do you like me?” Kaelen asked, his voice low and a little nervous.

Of course I do. With a face like yours, how could I not?” Lexie said, her tone playful.

“Since you like me, can we finally drop whatever’s been keeping us apart?” Kaelen asked, his voice soft and full of hope.

“Lex, ever since you came to the island, you’ve always kept me at arm’s length. It feels like you’re always ready to leave me behind,” he continued, a hint of anxiety in his tone.

“I know it was wrong to use the merfolk’s charming technique to get you to be with me, but Lex, my feelings for you are real,” Kaelen said, his eyes shining with sincerity.

“Merfolk are always loyal to their mates. You’re the only one I’ll ever have. If you ever leave me, then I…” Kaelen’s voice faded, the rest of his words lost in the night air.

“If I don’t want you anymore, what will you do?” Lexie asked, turning to look at Kaelen, her voice filled with curiosity.

She noticed the sadness on Kaelen’s face and couldn’t help but feel confused. ‘What’s he really trying to say?‘ Lexie wondered.

“Merfolk who lose their mates… they eventually die. Lex, I mean it, I really do like you.” Kaelen said, his voice trembling.

“So, I’m begging you, could you maybe like me a bit more? You know, the way you like Marshal Drake?” Kaelen pleaded. hope shining in his eyes.

Seeing the pleading look in Kaelen’s eyes, Lexie let out a soft sigh and spoke gently.

“Since you went to all this trouble to look so good today, I’ll agree to your request,” she said with a teasing smile.

“Really?” Kaelen blurted out, his eyes wide with disbelief.

For a moment, Kaelen couldn’t believe what he’d just heard.

“I mean it, Kaelen. Even though I was upset with you, we’ve got the mer egg between us now,” Lexie said gently.

“Life has to go on, whether it’s for the egg or because you used the mer–pearl to help ease my pain.

“You’ve done so much for me. It’s hard not to fall for you.

“So, Kaelen, you really did make me fall for you,” Lexie said, her eyes softening as she looked at him.

Hearing Lexie say that, Kaelen, who’d been trying to play it cool, couldn’t help but break into a huge grin, his eyes sparkling with pure joy.

He suddenly reached out and grabbed Lexie’s hand, holding on tight like he was afraid this was just a dream that might slip away any second.

“Lex, I’m so happy! I knew you’ve got a place for me in your heart. I just knew you wouldn’t hate me forever for what I did.

“Lex, I… I can’t believe how happy I am right now…” Kaelen stammered, his voice trembling with excitement and happiness.

Kaelen squeezed Lexie’s hand, his voice shaking, overflowing with joy.

Seeing Kaelen like that, Lexie couldn’t help but smile. She gently pulled her hand back, letting her fingertips softly graze his cheek as she spoke in a gentle tone.

“Alright, stop acting like a kid. From now on, let’s be good to each other. After all, we’ve got mer eggs between us.

“I heard that when the mer egg hatches, you have to do it yourself. Who knows if our little mer egg will end up a beastman or a female.

“But no matter what, they’re still our child,” Lexie said, her voice warm and full of affection.

Kaelen kept nodding, unwavering resolve shining in his eyes.

“That’s right, they’re ours. No matter if it’s a little beastman or a little girl, I’ll love them no matter what,” he said, his voice gentle but firm.

Hearing Kaelen say that and seeing the excited smile on his face, Lexie let out a soft sigh. Then she reached out and squeezed his hand back.

The moment their fingers interlaced, all the distance between them just disappeared.

‘Yeah, this is enough. Let’s just stay happy like this,‘ Lexie thought to herself.

Civen who she was now, that whole ‘happily ever after, just the two of us‘ thing was never gonna happen for her in this world.

Just as Lexie and Kaelen’s fingers interlaced, not far behind them, Gary and Cristia watched the two of them sitting by the

sea, hands entwined. Their faces were full of complicated emotions.

“Cristia, do you like kids?” Gary asked, his voice low and a little hesitant.

“Why are you asking me that?” Cristia replied, shooting Gary a puzzled look.

Cristia shot a quick glance at Gary, noticing how down he looked, and thought to himself, ‘What’s up with him tonight? Why is he asking me this out of the blue?‘

“I wasn’t really into kids before,” Gary admitted, his tone a bit distant.

“I used to think kids were just way too much trouble. With all those gene diseases, they’d start bawling from the pain the second they were born, and honestly, it was enough to make your head hurt,” Gary said, sounding a bit exasperated.

“But now, watching Lex, I feel like I could actually be okay with her having a kid.

“I talked it over with Lex, and she said when her little mer–baby is born, they’ll call me ‘godfather,” Gary added, sounding a little proud.
