When Gary said that, Cristia turned to look at him, noticing the gloom in his eyes. He stared at Gary until the guy started to get uncomfortable, and then he couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

“What are you laughing at?” Gary asked, confused.

Gary had been wallowing in self–pity, so Cristia’s sudden laughter completely threw him off.

“I’m laughing because you’re out of your mind,” Cristia said. “Gary, you’re not exactly a kid anymore. You managed to kick me out of the clan leader’s seat, which proves you’re no slouch. Honestly, you’re probably way better than I ever was.

“You only held the position for a year, but you kept the whole tribe running like clockwork.

“That alone shows you’re a smart and capable beastman.

“But look at you now, you’re acting like a stray puppy, just feeling sorry for yourself.

“If Lex really didn’t care about you, she never would’ve agreed to form a mate bond with you in the first place.

“She picked you, so trust her, and have a little faith in yourself too.

“There’s real feelings between you two, so quit treating her kindness like it’s just pity. Acting like this is only gonna make her feel bad.”

“And even if Lex isn’t into you right now, what’s the big deal?

“Gary, compared to everyone else, you’re seriously lucky. Marshal Drake is crazy about Lex, but he still isn’t her official mate.”

Gary mulled it over and had to admit Cristia was right.

If Lexie really didn’t care about him, she never would’ve agreed to the mate bond in the first place.

Turned out, he’d just been overthinking everything and missing the obvious.

“You’re right. I guess I was looking at it all wrong,” Gary admitted.

Once that clicked for him, Gary’s mood brightened up right away.

“Now that you get it, just make sure you treat Lex right whenever you’re with her,” Cristia said.

“And seriously, don’t go calling Lex ugly anymore. You’ve seen her with your own eyes, she’s anything but ugly,” Cristia warned.

“I know she’s not ugly,” Gary said, sounding a little frustrated. “But Cristia, why do you and Kaelen always have to hide what Lex really looks like?

“Wouldn’t it be better to just let her look beautiful? Why do you guys insist on making her look worse than she actually is?”

Cristia let out a helpless sigh at Gary’s confusion.

“Gary, Lex’s status already puts her right in the middle of the storm.

“She doesn’t have any way to protect herself, and if we let her stunning looks be on full display for everyone to see, it’d just bring her nothing but trouble, there’s really no upside for her in that.

“Besides, when I started liking Lex, it had nothing to do with her looks.

“If someone only judges people by their appearance and falls for a pretty face, they don’t deserve to be with someone like Lex,” Cristia explained.

“Tch!” Gary scoffed.

Cristia asked, confused, “What’s that supposed to mean?

“Did I say something off? Gary, what’s with that look on your face?”

Cristia replied, “Why would I call Lex shallow? She’s a female, if she wants any hot beastman, she can have whoever she

wants.

“But you’re not the same, Cary. You’re a beastman, and no other beastman is gonna fall for you, no matter how good–looking
