Sure enough, Gary realized his peeling skills were pChapter 143
retty bad, so he just chucked the fruit away and picked up a fresh one to start peeling again.
“Gary, you really don’t have to peel it,” Lexie said. “I don’t care about the skin at all. If you keep going, you’re gonna peel the whole thing away.”
He was so focused on peeling that he didn’t even hear Lexie’s words.
‘Forget it, I’ll just handle it myself,‘ Lexie thought with a sigh.
‘If one want something done right, better do it yourself,‘ she muttered inwardly.
But just as Lexie picked up the fruit knife to start peeling, Gary’s slightly annoyed voice made her jump.
“Lexie, didn’t we just agree I’d do it for you? Why are you taking matters into your own hands?” Gary protested.
Gary’s raised voice startled Lexie so much that she accidentally pricked her finger with the knife tip. Blood instantly welled up from her fingertip.
“Ouch! Why’d you have to scare me like that? It hurts!” Lexie yelped.
Staring at the blood dripping from her fingertip, Lexie automatically grabbed for the medical device, but before she could do anything, Gary grabbed her finger.
In the very next moment, the wound that had been on Lexie’s finger was now on Gary’s.
Lexie, still clutching the medical device, just froze, staring in shock.
“Wait, what the hell? I was the one who got hurt! How did the wound just jump over to your finger?” she blurted out, totally baffled.
Seeing Lexie’s stunned face, Gary just waved it off and said casually, “Lex, this is what the fox bead does.
“Kaelen’s mer pearl can take away your pain, but our Nine–Tailed Fox clan’s fox bead can actually shift your injuries onto me.
“So, what do you think? I took your wound for you, pretty impressive, right? Feeling a little moved?”
Lexie gave him a side–eye, totally unimpressed, and grumbled, “Gary, seriously? Do you have rocks in your head or something? Look, I’ve literally got a medical device right here!”
“All I have to do is give it a quick zap and my finger’s fine. Why would I ever need you to pull stunts like transferring my wound?
“Dumb fox, you must have left your brain in another dimension.”
All the while Lexie kept roasting him, she swiped the medical device over his finger.
Just like that, his bleeding finger was instantly as good as new.
“See? All fixed. Why’d you even bother transferring the wound? Honestly, I can’t with you,” Lexie said, shaking her head.
Hearing Lexie’s words, Gary looked like he’d just bitten into a lemon.
‘Hmph! What a clueless, ugly female. She really doesn’t get romance at all, he thought to himself.
But of course, he only dared to complain in his head, he wouldn’t dare say it out loud.

He thought trying this move would make Lexie warm up to him, maybe even get her to like him a bit. But Lexie was just way too practical for that kind of thing.
And seriously, why does she always carry a medical device and a treatment pod around, anyway?
‘Is Lexie really that terrified of dying?‘ Gary thought to himself, feeling a little exasperated.
Lexie shot him a look like he was totally clueless, and Gary felt seriously annoyed and kind of put out.
‘Come on, the fox bead from the Nine–Tailed Fox clan is super rare, not only can it transfer wounds, it’s got a bunch of other crazy powers too‘ Gary thought to himself.
But to Lexie, it was like the fox bead was totally optional, didn’t even matter to her. Not only was she not touched by him transferring her wound, she even called him dumb!
‘Ugh! This is seriously pissing me off!‘ Gary fumed inwardly.
Seeing the look of pure disdain on Lexie’s face, Gary couldn’t help but wonder if he’d somehow picked up the wrong script.
He’d thought that pulling off this move would totally make Lexie see him in a new light, maybe even make her start to like him a little.
But reality hit him hard, Lexie didn’t care at all, and just thought he was being extra for no reason.
‘Ugh, this ugly female is so much trouble. Why is she impossible to please?‘ Gary grumbled to himself.
Seeing Gary’s sulky glare, Lexie could only shrug and tug at his sleeve, pulling him down to sit next to her.
“Gary, you’ve been acting strange these past couple of days. What’s gotten into you today? Peeling apples for me, seriously?” Lexie asked.
“What’s it to you if I want to?” Gary muttered, still sulking.
Seeing Gary looking all grumpy, Lexie just shrugged helplessly and said, “Gary, can you please talk to me properly? If you keep taking jabs at me, I’m just not gonna bother with you.”
Hearing that, Gary bit his lip, hesitated for a moment, then finally turned to Lexie, looking a bit sheepish.
“Lex, I didn’t mean anything by it. I just wanted us to get along, so things wouldn’t be so awkward between us.
“But I just don’t know how to comfort you,” he admitted, sounding a bit awkward.
Hearing that, Lexie couldn’t help but laugh.
“What are you laughing at?” Gary asked.
“It’s nothing, really. Cary, you don’t have to try to comfort me,” Lexie replied.
“Why do I not need you to comfort me? You always joke and laugh with Cristia, but when it’s me, the whole vibe is just weird,” Gary complained.
“Because you always say such vicious things. Cristia comforts me because he genuinely likes me and he’s willing to indulge
“But you’re different. You only comfort me because you want something.
“You don’t actually like me, you’re just hoping to get something out of it.
“And since you don’t really care. I can’t feel any sincerity from you at all You don’t even bother to hide how impatient you
