“I don’t really know why you’re trying so hard to please me right now, but if you’re not in a rush, I think we should just take things slow.
“Our lives are incredibly long. By the average lifespan in the Aetherion Interstellar Zone, living for tens of thousands, or even millions of years, isn’t unusual at all.
“We’ve got all that time ahead of us, so we can just get to know each other at our own pace.
“With such a long future ahead, I just can’t believe that even after thousands, or tens of thousands of years, we still wouldn’t be able to get along.
“And if it ever comes to that, maybe we shouldn’t hold onto each other anymore. The Aetherion Interstellar Zone is so vast, you can go out and explore it.
“Who knows, maybe someday you’ll hit it off with some other beastman and end up ditching me, the ugly female,” Lexie continued.
“What? Hit it off with a beastman?” Gary echoed, his tone full of disbelief.
As soon as he realized what Lexie meant, his face darkened and he glared at her, clearly pissed off.
“Lexie, I’m a beastman! And you think I’d go for another beastman? Seriously, is that what you think of me?” Gary shot back.
Lexie burst out laughing. “Gary, you’re so good–looking, with those foxy eyes, that slim waist, and skin so soft it looks like you could squeeze water from it.
“Honestly, with how adorable you are, maybe one day you’ll really end up with some other beastman. You know what I mean.”
“Like hell I understand! Lexie, you ugly female, you never say anything that makes sense.
“Seriously, I can’t deal with you,” Gary grumbled.
Gary shot Lexie a pissed–off glare, totally done trying to make nice with her, then stomped off by himself.
Once Gary was gone, Lexie finally let out a long sigh of relief.
‘Looks like Gary won’t be trying to get close to me anytime soon,‘ she thought. ‘His weird behavior lately has been creeping
me out.
‘After I gave him such a hard time just now, he probably won’t come bothering me again for a while,‘ she thought to herself.
‘Still… Lexie mused, lost in her own thoughts.
She gently rubbed her slightly rounded belly, wondering, ‘Why does five months feel like it’s dragging on forever?
Thanks to Kaelen’s mer pearl, even though she was pregnant, she didn’t feel any discomfort at all.
But after being stuck on Merfolk Island for so long, she was honestly starting to go stir–crazy.
And even now, she still had no clue whether her mer egg would hatch into a baby merfolk or a baby beastman.
While Lexie was still lost in thought, wondering if her mer egg would hatch into a little merfolk or a baby beastman, Gary, who had just stormed outside, was brooding, clearly in a funk.
He really wanted to get along with Lexie, but somehow, things just blew up between them in the end.

While Gary was brooding in the shadows, a cool, crisp scent suddenly drifted by, putting him instantly on alert.
He turned toward the source of that chilly scent, yep, it was a familiar face.
“Kaelis, just how ugly are you to be rocking that busted mask all day, every day?” Gary taunted.
“So, did Marshal Drake chase you so hard you couldn’t take it anymore? What brings you crawling to Merfolk Island today?
“What’s up, you got a death wish? Or are you just begging for me, the great Gary, to rip that wolf hide off you myself?”
Kaelis didn’t even blink at Gary’s threats. He just gave him a cold stare, and after a long moment, finally sneered.
“Damn fox, with a mouth like yours, no wonder that little female Lexie can’t stand you.
“Someone like you, let me tell you, if it wasn’t for your brother Cristia pulling strings, you’d never even get close to that little female in your whole life,” Kaelis said.
“What the hell, ugly wolf, are you reading my mind now?” Gary barked.
“Please, you’re just a second–rate fox, not even the heir, why would I need to sneak around? I’m listening to you loud and clear, right in your face, got it?” Kaelis sneered.
“Ugly wolf, looks like you’re just asking for trouble from yours truly,” Gary sneered.
When Kaelis mocked him, Gary, already in a bad mood, got even more worked up. Just as he was about to lose his temper, Kaelis cut in.
“Gary, I’m not here to argue with you today. I came to see that little female called Lexie,” Kaelis said coolly.
“You? Not a chance,” Gary scoffed.
“If you help set up a meeting for me, I’ll give you whatever reward you want,” Kaelis said, his voice icy and full of promise.
“Reward? Kaelis, even if I’m not the leader of the Nine–Tailed Fox Clan anymore, me, Gary, I’ve got enough money to last eighteen lifetimes. Like I’d ever care about your reward.
And besides, Lexie’s my mate now. She’s mine, got it? You really think I’d just hand her over to you?
“Ha! Are you kidding me?” Gary scoffed.
Kaelis didn’t get mad at all. He just kept staring at Gary, his eyes piercingly bright, almost like he was lost in thought.
When he fixed Gary with that cold, unblinking stare, it sent chills down Gary’s spine,
Just as Gary was about to say something, Kaelis finally spoke up.
“Gary, our Snow Wolf Clan’s High Priest has foreseen that in a few months, that little female, and all of you, will be facing a great calamity, one involving bloodshed.
“The last time I tried to take her away, it wasn’t just because she’s a female, Our High Priest also wanted to help her escape
this disaster.
“But now, it looks like there’s no way to avoid it.
“When you go back, let the others know to stay alert. If something really does happen, Gary, remember to come find me.
“No one but the High Priest of the Snow Wolf Clan can bail you out of this,” Kaelis said, his voice icy and resolute.
