“I’m not lying to you. If you don’t believe me, go ask Cristia. If that doesn’t work, ask Marshal Drake or Nelson,” Gary said.
“With a scent that strong on you, I bet there’s no way they wouldn’t notice,” he added.
Hearing Gary say that, Lexie turned to Austin, Nelson, and Cristia, who were sitting off to the side, her face puzzled as she asked,
“Austin, can you check for me? Do I really smell that strong?” she asked, sounding genuinely confused.
Hearing Lexie, Austin looked at the sleeve she held out to him. He leaned in, bent down, and took a sniff at her wrist.
Instantly, a fresh and elegant scent hit him. It was like spring flowers blooming right under his nose, making him feel relaxed and almost blissful.
The more he breathed it in, the more it messed with his head.
It was like some kind of addictive poison, every whiff just dragged him further into its vortex, making it impossible to snap out of it.
Whenever he spent time with Lexie, there was never such a fragrance on her before.
But when did she start smelling so fragrant?
Oh, right, it was after Lexie got sick that this barely noticeable yet persistent scent began to emanate from her.
At first, he thought she’d just sprayed on some perfume.
But now, just like Gary said, it seemed to be her natural scent.
But wasn’t a person’s natural fragrance something you were born with? So why did Lexie suddenly start giving off this scent after she got sick?
And most importantly, why was her scent so irresistibly captivating? If he didn’t have such ironclad self–control, he’d honestly want to sink his teeth into her wrist right now, just to see what would happen…
‘No way, where did that wild thought even come from?‘ Austin caught himself, startled by his own sudden urge.
Austin raised an eyebrow, his eyes wide with surprise and confusion as he looked up at Lexie.
“Lex, your scent is truly unique,” Austin said slowly, his tone thoughtful,
As he spoke, his gaze unconsciously grew more intense.
Lexie’s confusion only deepened when she heard Austin say that. She brought her sleeve up to her nose again, but still couldn’t smell a thing.
‘Seriously, why am I the only one who can’t smell it?‘ Lexie muttered to herself, feeling even more battled.
Seeing how puzzled Lexie looked, Austin felt something unexplainable tug at his heart. He gave her shoulder a reassuring pat, trying to comfort her.
“Maybe it’s only the rest of us who can pick up on it. Either way, your scent really is something special,” he said.
“Really?” Lexie asked, still sounding doubtful.

Chapter 147
Seeing Lexie’s confusion, Nelson, sitting nearby, took out a gadget and placed it on her wrist.
“What are you doing?” Lexie asked, a little startled.

“I’m collecting your scent so Arthur can check it out. I want to see if your sickness is connected to this scent,” Nelson replied.
Hearing Nelson say that, Lexie brought her wrist up to her nose again, but still couldn’t smell a thing.
But judging by the looks on Gary and Nelson’s faces, she must really have had a scent on her.
‘What the heck? Did I turn into some kind of fragrant princess after time–traveling? Since when did I start smelling like this?‘ Lexie thought, totally baffled.
Even though she was still confused, she figured smelling nice was way better than smelling bad, so she didn’t really mind the
scent.
But while Lexie didn’t really mind, after Arthur ran some tests on her scent, his brows furrowed in concern.
“Is something wrong? Is there a problem with Lexie’s scent?” Austin asked, worry clear in his voice.
“Yes. Lexie’s scent has a powerful effect on beastmen, it’s almost irresistible,” Arthur said, sounding grave.
“Any beastman who doesn’t have strong self–control, if they keep breathing in this scent, they’ll totally lose it and might just do something crazy,” Arthur warned.
“Lex, your scent isn’t just some normal kind of attraction for beastmen. It’s like it’s hardwired into their genes, calling out to them from deep inside their souls,” Arthur said, his tone dead serious.
“Lex, your scent is seriously irresistible,” Arthur said, letting out a helpless sigh.
“How is this even possible? Why would Lex suddenly have a scent like this out of the blue?” Austin asked, clearly baffled.
Arthur shook his head, clearly at a loss for answers.
Lexie was just full of mysteries, he honestly had no idea how to even begin explaining any of it.
Took her appetite, for example, Lexie could out–eat dozens of beastmen put together, no problem.
And the wildest thing? Even after downing all that nutrient fluid, she didn’t gain a single pound, in fact, she just kept getting
skinnier.
And now, on top of all that, she’d suddenly started giving off this mysterious scent for no reason at all.
If this kind of irresistible scent was only shared between mates, that’d be a total win.
But if other beastmen got a whiff of that subtle, barely–there scent, that’s a disaster waiting to happen.
This scent had appeared so suddenly, and who knew if it’d vanish once the mer egg was born?
With all these lingering questions, as the five–month mark approached, Lexie’s scent just kept getting stronger.
And by then, she spent most of her time in a deep sleep, barely waking up at all.
While Lexie was deep in sleep, she had no clue that during her unconscious hours, the beastmen on Merfolk Island who caught her scent were growing more and more restless, their faces twisted with struggle and raw longing,

Under the pull of that addictive fragrance, they found themselves desperate to get closer to wherever Lexie was.
And it wasn’t just the beastmen on the island, even those lurking outside, just watching from a distance, were hit by the scent wafting from Merfolk Island. Before they even realized it, their bodies started moving toward the island, acting on instinct alone.
Not even the guards stationed on Merfolk Island could stop them, the beastmen just kept drifting closer, drawn by pure
instinct.
Kaelen and Austin had their men use force, but it was useless; the beastmen ignored pain, laughed in the face of death, and pushed forward, desperate to reach the island no matter what.
Or maybe it was Lexie herself they were obsessed with, the source of that fatal, addictive fragrance that drove them wild.
With more and more beastmen crowding around Merfolk Island, even the guards stationed there were starting to lose control under the pull of Lexie’s irresistible scent, it was getting harder for them to fight their own urges.
Concerned for everyone’s safety, Arthur was just about to get Lexie off the island when, out of nowhere, disaster struck.
Lexie finally snapped out of her daze, but the moment she lost focus, she collapsed to the ground. Instantly, a stabbing pain shot through her stomach, her face twisted in agony as she clutched her belly, barely able to breathe.
Arthur’s eyes widened as he saw Lexie like that. ‘It’s happening, the mer egg’s coming,‘ he realized, heart pounding.
With things turning critical, Arthur knew he had no choice but to give up on moving Lexie. He had to help her deliver the mer egg right then and there, no matter what.
The birth of the mer egg was absolutely crucial to everyone, no matter who they were.
