Chapter 156

Hearing what Kaelis said, Lexie turned to get a good look at his side profile.

After a while, Lexie asked with a hint of curiosity, Kaelis, are you goodlooking?

Lex, do you want to see my face? If you take off my mask and look at me, you’ll have to marry me,Kaelis said with a teasing

smile.

Huh? Nope, better not,Lexie replied without hesitation.

Lexie immediately refused when she heard Kaelis’s words.

Lex, why don’t you want to see my face?Kaelis asked, sounding a little disappointed.

Well, I’m totally into good looks. I only go for goodlooking beastmen, not the ugly ones,Lexie admitted.

If you turn out to be super ugly under that mask, and I see your face but don’t like you, I really don’t want to be stuck marrying you because of it.

So yeah, I’d better not look, she added.

Is that so? Well, Lex, if I told you I’m actually super handsome, would you want to take a peek at my face then?Kaelis asked with a teasing grin.

Nope. Looks aren’t everything, I care a lot about someone’s character too. If a guy’s got a rotten personality, even if he’s insanely goodlooking, I wouldn’t like him at all,” Lexie replied.

Really? So, between looks and character, which matters more to you, Lex?Kaelis asked.

If it’s just a first meeting, I’m all about the looks. But if we’re talking about being together for the long haul, then character definitely wins out,” Lexie replied.

Of course, that’s not always the case. If a guy is ridiculously handsome and I get totally dazzled by his face, I might just go head over heels and forget all about character!she joked.

Is that so?Kaelis asked, a hint of curiosity in his voice.

Kaelis reached up and lightly touched his mask, unable to hide his curiosity as he asked,

So, Lex, what kind of beastman are you into?

Honestly, I can’t really say for sure. There are so many handsome beastmen out there, and just because I haven’t met them yet doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like them,” Lexie said.

So I can’t really tell you exactly what kind of beastman I’m into. But one thing’s for sure, if a beastman is goodlooking, he definitely gets bonus points from me,she added with a grin.

Is that so?Kaelis sounded relieved.

After hearing Lexie say that, Kaelis finally relaxed a little.

He turned to get a good look at Lexie’s side profile, just about to say something when a guard suddenly cut in.

Leader, there’s a beastman named Gary Tucker waiting down the mountain asking for you by name. He’s got a pass from our Snow Wolf Clan, so I thought I should let you know, the guard reported.

Gary Tucker? That smartmouthed fox sure got here fast. The Snow Wolf Clan lives deep in the mountains, and there’s only a single, wellhidden path in or out,Kaelis muttered.

No clue how that damn fox managed to find this place. He really is something else,he added.

After saying that, Kaelis turned back to Lexie and said gently, Lex, I’ve got something to take care of, so I’ll have to leave for a bit.

Oh, go ahead! I’ll just hang out here by myself for a while,Lexie replied.

Alright,Kaelis said.

After Kaelis left, Lexie lingered by the window a bit longer, but she’d had enough of the chilly breeze and didn’t want to stand there anymore.

This place was seriously freezing. Even though she was bundled up like a ball, she was still shivering like crazy.

But the beastmen here were a whole different story. They could stroll around butt naked in the snow and wind and not even flinch.

Lexie, on the other hand, was hopeless against the cold. Just chatting with Kaelis in the hallway for a few minutes had her feeling like she was about to freeze solid.

Before heading back, Lexie couldn’t help but keep thinking about the name Gary Tucker. It felt strangely familiar, like she’d heard it somewhere before.

No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t place it.

She gave her head a little shake, hoping to scatter all those messy thoughts, then turned and headed back the way she came.

finally

Back in her room, Lexie was greeted by the cozy warmth inside. She started shedding her thick clothes one by one, able to relax.

Just as she was about to hang up her coat, suddenly, a hand reached out from behind and took it from her, hanging it up for her.

Thanks,” Lexie said casually,

Noticing someone behind her, Lexie didn’t think much of it. She just figured it was one of the servants looking after her, and kept taking off her clothes without a second thought,

But when Lexie was down to just her thin slip, she glanced over and saw the servant on the other side of the room. That’s when it suddenly hit her, the person who’d hung up her coat wasn’t the servant at all.

She spun around and found herself facetoface with another masked man, the Snow Wolf Clan’s High Priest himself.

High Priest? What are you doing here?Lexie blurted out, clearly caught off guard.

Looking at the High Priest, who carried himself with such noble serenity and an almost otherworldly aura. Lexic found herself speaking to him a bit more carefully than usual.

Lex, I’m here to check on your health. You’re still pretty weak, and I can’t let anything happen to you while you’re here with me, the High Priest said.

Weak? I feel totally fine! Seriously, I don’t feel like anything’s off with me,Lexie said, sounding genuinely puzzled.

Lexie caught the High Priest’s worried look and asked, confused, Is something wrong?
