The Last True Female (Lexie) (by Sylvia Vance) novel Chapter 173

The High Priest probably already knows what’s going on here. He’s on his way.

As for Lex, I’ll discuss it with the High Priest when he returns.”

Kaelis stared coldly at the bodies on the ground as he spoke.

Someone, come here!Kaelis commanded.

Leader?one of the beastmen replied.

Get rid of these two bodies. I don’t want them lying around here. And all of you on night watch, stay alert.

For your own safety, make sure you wear everything the High Priest gave you. Don’t take anything off.

And don’t forget your masks, wear them properly.

Those nasty things underground love eating human faces, so protect yourselves. Don’t let anything happen to you,” Kaelis said.

Got it, Leader, all the beastmen answered.

After watching his people leave, Kaelis shifted back into his human form.

His face was rugged and stern, his brows set in resolute determination. His eyes were as sharp as an eagle’s, like he could see right through every lie and shadow around him.

Even after that heartpounding moment, he stayed cool, not even a trace of panic on his face.

He stood there like a towering mountain, radiating a sense of endless security.

Kaelis glanced at the ground, then took out his mask and put it on his face. With the mask on, he was back to his usual cool and collected self.

There was something he hadn’t told Lexie. For the Snow Wolf Clan, these masks weren’t just about showing loyalty to their

mates.

Even more, they were meant to keep those underground monsters from noticing them and devouring their faces, otherwise, they’d end up dead.

Thinking about what just happened, Kaelis glanced in the direction of Lexie’s room.

Back when the High Priest brought Lexie back from Merfolk Island, Kaelis had asked if they should get her a mask to keep

her safe.

But the High Priest said that no matter how strong those nasty things underground were, they wouldn’t even think about touching Lexie.

So Lexie had nothing to fear from whatever was lurking down there.

But just who was Lexie, that she could face those things without fear?

Kaelis had asked the High Priest about it before, but the High Priest never gave him an answer.

Now that the monsters had burst out from underground, Kaelis glanced at Lexie’s room, his face a mix of emotions.

Only a certain kind of person wouldn’t be scared of those things down below

After hesitating for a long time, Kaelis finally left.

Forget it, as long as the High Priest is here, everything will be fine, he reassured himself.

The High Priest had inherited the memories and powers of all the High Priests before him. As long as he was around, the Snow Wolf Clan would be safe.

I really shouldn’t overthink it,Kaelis told himself.

Lexie had no clue what went down outside last night. The moment she opened her eyes in the morning, she saw Gary at her bedside, chewing on the bedsheet.

Gary was shirtless, nervously twisting the blanket in his hands, his face all shy and bashful. Lexie was totally thrown off by he sight.

But what really got to Lexie was that Gary’s nine huge tails were still out in full view, not hidden away at all.

Dragging those nine tails behind him, Gary looked just like a fox spirit who’d tumbled into the human world, trying to charm someone with those pure, innocent eyes.

Right now, Gary was basically a walking temptation, like a fox spirit trying to seduce someone, he was just too much to handle.

Lexie’s eyes hurt just looking at Gary like that.

She rubbed her aching forehead, and just thinking about what went down between her and Gary last night made her feel ike her head was about to burst from overthinking.

What the hell is going on?Lexie thought to herself.

If she’d known Gary would use those nine tails to reel her in, she wouldn’t have let him crash in her room last night.

Now they’d been intimate, and even if she wanted to bail, there was no way out.

Seeing Lexie looking like she was about to get a migraine, Gary stepped up right on cue, gently placing his hands on her temples. His voice was gentle and flirtatious as he spoke.

Lexhe said.

Gary, can you not talk like that? Just say it straight,Lexie groaned, her head pounding from his syrupy tone.

With Gary’s voice so syrupy it made her cringe, Lexie muttered, rubbing her aching head.

Lex, do you have a headache?Gary asked, still laying it on thick.

Yeah, I’ve got a headache, she muttered, not even trying to hide her annoyance.

With Gary acting all flirty and shameless, Lexie barely had the strength to deal with him.

Lex, you look a little out of it,” Gary teased, his voice laced with playful concern.

Obviously! A sly fox drained every bit of energy I had last night. How do you expect me to feel okay?Lexie grumbled, rolling her eyes.

Hearing that, Gary pouted, his annoyance written all over his face.

Lex, are you mad at me?he asked, sounding a little hurt.

No,Lexie replied, deadpan.

Oh, please, Lex! Last night, you were totally the one who started it,” Gary teased, refusing to let it go.

Me? I started it?Lexie gasped, her eyes wide in disbelief.

Gary’s shameless twist left Lexie so stunned she was speechless, her jaw practically hitting the floor.
