For the sake of their child’s health and safety, after taking down those bloodthirsty beasts, they had to do whatever it took to survive.

Everyone, let’s stay alive!

In that heavy silence, nobody knew who it was, but someone quietly said those words.

Yeah, let’s stay alive. For our child, we have to make it through.

That’s right. As long as we’re alive, no one will dare mess with our child.

Exactly. I haven’t even met my child yet. I still don’t know what it’s like to be a father.”

So I have to stay alive. I have to live well.

Yeah, let’s all fight to survive. Eliva wouldn’t be happy if we left our child behind just to go find her.

If we really did that, Eliva would be upset.”

That’s right. Eliva cares about her child more than anything. She’d never agree to let the child she risked her life to bring into this world be left without anyone to care for her.

So, it’s settled! Once we take down those bloodthirsty beasts, we have to survive, no matter what.

With that determined tone hanging in the icy night air, twelve beastmen who’d held out for years deep in the snowy mountains suddenly found a new reason to keep going, for the kids they’d never even met.

They had to protect their child. They couldn’t just selfishly give up and die. If they did, who would be there to look after their child?

That night, as the blizzard raged outside, Lexie had no clue about the conversation going on between Frost and the other eleven beastmen.

When she finally woke up, all she knew was that she was now staying in a slightly smaller cave than before.

When she woke up, Kaelis had already woken up before her.

As soon as he saw Lexie open her eyes, Kaelis quickly held a cup of hot water to her lips.

Her throat was so dry that she didn’t even think about refusing. With his help, she gulped down the whole cup, and her parched throat finally felt a bit soothed.

Kaelis, are you alright? What exactly happened after those bloodthirsty beasts took us? Why did they suddenly toss us at the edge of the cliff?Lexie asked.

Kaelis steadied Lexie, making sure she was sitting up, then explained softly.

He said, Lex, those bloodthirsty beasts were afraid of something you had with you. That’s the only reason they threw us off

the cliff.

We were lucky, we landed right on the edge. If we’d gone straight down, we wouldn’t have made it out alive.

Something on me? What could I possibly have that would freak out those bloodthirsty beasts?Lexie frowned, puzzled.

Kaelis gave her a quick onceover, then shook his head.

He said, Honestly, I have no clue what it is about you that scares those beasts.

All I know is, just when one of them was about to sink its teeth into me, they spotted something on you and, just like that, tossed away their meal, meaning us, right off the cliff.

Lucky for us, we landed in one piece and didn’t get killed by the fall.

If we hadn’t, we’d be toast.

Lexie’s mind was still a complete jumble after hearing Kaelis’s explanation.

She looked herself over carefully, but couldn’t find anything that might be some kind of secret weapon to scare off those bloodthirsty beasts.

There was nothing unusual about her at all. Could it be that the bloodthirsty beasts were actually afraid of her? No way! I’m pretty gentle, why would those bloodthirsty beasts be scared of me?Lexie thought, totally baffled.

I’m not some tigress or anything. What could they possibly be afraid of?she wondered.

Trying to push aside her doubts, Lexie glanced around the unfamiliar cave, then shot Kaelis a puzzled look.

Kaelis, why aren’t we heading back? Why are we still hiding out in this cave?she asked.

Lex, the blizzard outside is way too fierce. It’s too risky to try and get you back right now, especially at night. Once the sun

we’ll head back.

comes up,

Besides, we don’t even know if those bloodthirsty beasts have left the Snow Wolf Clan yet. I’m injured, and if we run into those beasts on the way, I won’t be able to keep you safe.

Right now, I just can’t protect you.

And most importantly, we’re deep in the mountains. The magnetic field here is all over the place, if we try to find our way in the dark, we’ll just end up lost.

Lex, you’re a female, you can’t handle this kind of cold. If you stay out in that blizzard for too long, you’d freeze out there in no time,” Kaelis explained.

Hearing Kaelis’s explanation, Lexie decided not to argue and just went along with it.

Since we can’t head back now, we might as well stay put until morning,’ Lexie thought to herself.

But when Lexie saw how gray and washedout Kaelis looked, she couldn’t help blurting out in shock.

Kaelis, you look terrible. Are you feeling okay?she asked, worry clear in her voice.

It’s nothing, Lex. those bloodthirsty beasts took a chunk out of me, so I’m a bit drained. On top of that, I got hit with their poison.

Once we make it back to the Snow Wolf Clan tomorrow and find the High Priest, he’ll figure out a way to get this polson out of my system,Kaelis said, trying to reassure her.

Are you sure you’re alright? You look really awful,Lexie said, her voice thick with worry.

She tugged Kaelis over to sit right next to her, scanning his face with obvious concern in her eyes.
