The moment Lexie’s and Kaclen’s hands clasped together, Lexie’s eyes were filled with nothing but infatuation, while Kaelen’s eyes blazed with sheer shock. The little creature before him was not a beastman at all. She was truly a real female.
Mermaids possessed a unique racial ability. With just a simple touch, they could accurately discern a person’s race, gender, age, and state of health.
At that moment, Kaelen could feel Lexic’s soft skin, so different from the rough texture of a beastman’s, along with the faint, alluring scent of a female wafting off her. To beastmen like him, that scent was an irresistible, invisible temptation.
Kaelen’s heart was churning with a storm of emotions. He had never imagined that he would encounter a female under such circumstances.
Before he had fallen into his slumber, rumors from the land had claimed that the last female, Lilith, was no longer in this world.
It was precisely because there were no more females left in the world that he had feared his body would undergo beastification and spiral into chaos. Left with no other choice, he had forced himself into a deep sleep.
But he had never dreamed that after just one slumber, when he opened his eyes again, a female would be standing right in front of him.
Even though the female before him wore a simulation mask, Kaelen had recognized her true identity at a single glance. She was a real female, not a beastman.
Looking at Lexie, whose fingers were intertwined with his, Kaelen took a deep breath, striving to calm his racing heart. Then he gently tightened his grip on her hand, as if afraid she would vanish into thin air at any
moment.
His eyes were brimming with tenderness and doting affection, as if he were gazing upon a rare and priceless
treasure.
Being looked at with such adoring eyes by Kaelen, Lexie’s eyes immediately lit up with a sparkle of delight. She thought, ‘Oh my god. A drop–dead gorgeous man like him was actually smiling at me.’
Just as Lexie was completely swept away by Kaelen’s breathtaking looks, he said softly, “Good girl, tell me. What is your name?”
“Lexie. My name is Lexie,” Lexie said in a daze.
Kaelen asked, “Then tell me. Are you a female?”
Staring into the strange, shimmering light in Kaelen’s eyes, Lexie felt like a complete fool at that moment. She nodded vigorously and replied cheerfully, “Yes, yes. I am a female.”
“Really? You are such a good girl, Lex. Now tell me. Are you wearing a simulation mask on your face?” Kaelen asked.

“Yes, I am. It looks so real and hard to tell apart from a real face, right?” At those words, Lexic ripped off the mask in one swift motion, leaned closer to Kaclen, and said with a beaming smile.
Gazing at Lexie’s delicate, lovely face beneath the mask, Kaclen smiled so happily. That one smile was enough to capture Lexic’s heart and soul entirely. She thought, ‘He was so breathtakingly beautiful!
“Lex, you are very cute,” said Kaelen.
“Really? Mermaid, you are so beautiful, too,” Lexie said.
Then, Lexie reached out boldly and placed both her hands on Kaelen’s cheeks, her eyes drinking in his features with pure infatuation.
Watching Lexie’s bold, silly move, William was utterly dumbfounded.
He thought, ‘Lex must have been completely bewitched by Kaelen’s charm. If not so, she wouldn’t touch the face of the Merman King, without worrying that the maniac might slap her into pieces with a flick of his tail.‘
For Lexie’s safety, William stepped forward, intending to pull her away from Kaelen’s spell. But the moment he took that first step, a sharp, searing pain shot up from his feet, rooting him firmly to the spot.
Glancing down, he saw that his ankles had been tightly entangled by the seawater that had washed ashore, though he had no idea when it had happened.
The water looked harmless enough, but William knew better. If he dared to take even one more step forward, the seawater coiling around his feet would instantly freeze into ice and pierce straight through his body.
This was Kaelen’s special ability. Anyone who dared to defy him would meet a swift and merciless end, and Kaelen would not even bat an eyelid. Right now, he was issuing a threat.
Faced with such a menacing warning, William was actually terrified. But his own safety paled in comparison to his concern for Lexie.
He had just sworn an oath to protect Lexie with his life. If he allowed anything to happen to her right under his nose, he would be unworthy of being the heir to the Eagle clan.
With that thought in mind, William ignored the throbbing pain in his feet and fixed his gaze on Kaelen, his voice cold and steady. “Kaelen, what do you think you are doing?”
“You tell me.” Kaelen’s eyes were locked onto Lexie’s, his gaze filled with an indescribable tenderness and lingering affection.
As their eyes met, Kaelen’s cheek brushed softly against Lexie’s palm.
The eye contact, coupled with the smooth, silky touch coming from her hand, left Lexie completely under Kaelen’s charm. She was as obedient as a marionette, smiling foolishly at him without a single thought in her
head.
Watching Lexie slip further and further into Kaelen’s bewitchment, William felt a surge of frustration.
Still, he could not help but warn Kaelen sharply, “Kaelen, you had better not lay a single finger on Lex. Listen

“Dr. Cole is keeping a close eye on her, too. If you dare to harm her, I swear to you that Marshal Drake and Dr. Cole’s men will drain this entire ocean dry within a day.
“Then they will capture every last one of you Mermaids and dry you out like fish jerky.”
The moment William finished his threat, a wave of seawater surged up and wrapped around his legs, flinging him straight into the ocean.
Glancing back to see William thrown into the sea, Kaelen turned his attention back to Lexie. His expression shifted in the blink of an eye, melting into a gentle, kind smile.
