Chapter 61

‘What the hell just happened? How did I end up in the ocean in the blink of an eye? Lexie thought, her mind spinning.
Even though she had no idea what had just happened, Lexic clung to Kaelen’s neck for dear life, not daring to let go.
She’d already died once, and now, she was really scared of dying again.
Seeing how tense Lexie was, Kaelen slipped his arm around her slender waist and planted a soft kiss on her cheek, chuckling.
“Lex, is this you showing you missed me?” he teased.
“Huh?” Lexie blinked, caught off guard.
Hearing his deep, velvety voice in her ear, Lexie stared blankly at Kaelen, completely at a loss for words.
“Lex, do you think I’m good–looking?” Kaelen teased.
“Uh… yeah, you are,” Lexie stammered.
‘Of course he’s good–looking. He’s the Merman King. The guy’s drop–dead gorgeous, almost unreal. How could he not be?‘ Lexie thought.
When Lexie admitted he was handsome, Kaelen’s smile became even more captivating, his charm turning downright mesmerizing.
He tightened his hold on her waist, drawing her in until their foreheads nearly touched, closing the distance between them.
He smiled, “Lex, I really, really like you. I always thought you weren’t into me, but turns out you like me too,
huh?
“See? We just met and you’re already clinging to me like this.”
“Uh…” Lexie stammered, totally flustered.
As Kaelen leaned in, Lexie instinctively tried to pull away, but trapped in his arms, she had nowhere to run.
Kaelen caught her attempt to dodge, and with a gentle squeeze at her waist, her body moved on its own, pulled right into his arms.
“Lex, can you say you like me?” Kaelen coaxed.
“No, I can’t. I mean… you’re the Merman King…” Lexie stammered, flustered.
“Sweetheart, just call me Kaelen, or darling,” Kaelen replied.

Chapter 61
“Uh, Kaelen, we barely know each other.” Lexie replied.
She tried to resist, but her efforts were hopeless as Kaelen kept leaning in.

“Come on, Lex, we’re already mates now. How can you say we barely know each other?” Kaelen teased.
“I don’t really know you, and you don’t know me either. How can two people who barely know each other just suddenly become mates?” Lexie protested.
“Is that so? Then tell me, Lex, what do we have to do for you to consider us truly close?” Kaelen teased.
“Uh… maybe holding hands, or kissing?”
Lexie had never dated anyone before, so facing Kaelen’s ridiculously handsome face, that was all she could come up with.
“Holding hands? Kissing?” Kaelen repeated with a playful smirk.
He didn’t hesitate. He grabbed Lexie’s hand, then swooped in and pressed his lips to hers.
As his cool lips met hers, Lexie froze, her whole body tingling. All she could do was stare at Kaelen’s impossibly gorgeous face, her mind wiped blank.
His eyes shimmered with an otherworldly light, and Lexie felt like she was under a spell. She was unable to resist, unable to respond.
She just let him do whatever he wanted, totally dazed and helpless.
She had no idea how long it lasted. When Kaelen finally let her go, her first reaction was to slap him.
But before she could even swing, Kaelen grabbed her hand. Right before her stunned eyes, he went and licked her palm.
The wet, tingly feeling freaked Lexie out and she yanked her hand back on reflex.
“Y–You pervert!” Lexie sputtered.
“Pervert? Lex, we’re mates. Isn’t it normal for us to do stuff like this?” Kaelen teased.
“That’s so not normal! I–I didn’t want any of that,” Lexie protested.
She tried to squirm out of Kaelen’s arms, and this time, she actually managed to break free.
But as soon as she did, she dropped straight into the water.
As soon as she hit the water, Lexie started splashing around in a panic, her instincts kicking in as she latched onto Kaelen like he was her lifeline.
Once she was curled up safely in Kaelen’s arms, Lexie finally breathed a sigh of relief.
‘Holy crap, that was close. I almost drowned,‘ Lexie thought, her heart racing.

Chapter 61
“Lex, do you like me?” Kaelen asked.
He held her close with one arm, his tone gentle.
“No, I don’t,” Lexic blurted out.

“If you really don’t like me, then I’ll just go. No need for me to stick around and get in your way,” Kaelen said.
As he spoke, Kaelen started to let go of Lexie, making it look like he was about to leave her behind.
Seeing that, Lexie freaked out and grabbed onto his neck with both hands, blurting out in a panic.
“No, no, don’t go. I… I do like you, okay?” she stammered.
“Really?” Kaclen said, acting all surprised.
As soon as Lexie said that, Kaelen pulled her even closer by the waist, putting on an over–the–top look of delight.
“Yes, I like you, so don’t let go! I can’t swim,” Lexie blurted out.
She totally ignored the sly look in Kaelen’s eyes. Right now, all she cared about was clinging to his neck like her life depended on it. No way was she letting go.
“Since you like me, why don’t you call me ‘darling‘?” Kaelen teased.
“Don’t go too far,” Lexie shot back.
As soon as Kaelen said that, Lexie immediately protested, clearly not having it.
“Oh? So you won’t call me ‘darling‘? Guess you really don’t like me, huh? That’s just heartbreaking.”
“I’m outta here. I’m going home. Just let me go!”
Seeing Kaelen act like he was about to leave, Lexie totally panicked, squeezed her eyes shut, and shouted without thinking.
“Please, darling, I like you. Don’t let go of me,” she blurted out.
“Really? Since you like me, why don’t you give me a kiss?”
“You’re really pushing it!”
Kaelen’s shameless request left Lexie so flabbergasted, she was about to lose it.
“If you don’t kiss me, I’m letting go,” Kaelen warned.
Hearing his threat and catching that look in his eyes, Lexie was so mad that she wanted to just sink her teeth
into him.
‘This damn guy! Just because I can’t swim, he’s totally threatening me,‘ Lexie fumed inwardly.

Chapter 61
Stuck like this, Lexie had no choice but to cave to his demands.
With no other way out, Lexie gave him a quick, reluctant peck on the check.
“Not here, Lex. Kiss me right here,” Kaelen teased, puckering his lips expectantly.

Seeing Kaelen pout like that, Lexie was so pissed that she wanted to smack him right then and there. She never knew this good–looking guy would act so damn shameless.
Seriously, he was driving her crazy.
She wanted to smack him, but honestly, she didn’t have the guts.
After hyping herself up for ages, Lexie finally gave in and pressed a quick, reluctant kiss to his lips, then pulled away, cheeks puffed out in annoyance.
