Chapter 64
With that thought, Lexie lifted her head and glanced at Eric, who was standing off to the side. She asked in a gentle voice, “Hey, what’s your name?”
“Eric Thorne. What’s up?” Eric replied.
She pointed at the unconscious Samuel on the ground, smiling as she asked, “So your name’s Eric. Do you have a thing for him? Is that why you got all jealous when I touched him while trying to save him?”
“What are you talking about? I just see Samuel as a rival. I’m not nuts. Why would I ever like a beastman?” Eric snapped back.
Lexie shot back, “Oh, so you’re saying you’re nuts, but I am? Seriously, if you hadn’t brought it up, I wouldn’t even know his name or what he looks like. Why would I like him? What, am I nuts or something? I like him? You’ve got to be kidding me!”
Lexie gave Eric a look of pure annoyance before turning her attention back to the giant wolf lying on the ground.
She’d heard from Eric that this beastman, Samuel, was the student council president, top of his class, and apparently super popular.
So, he must be one hell of a beastman.
He was so outstanding, and after finally making it to adulthood, it’d honestly be a shame if he just died in front of her.
But when it came to curing a beastman’s gene disease, Lexie was completely at a loss.
Before, all she had to do was touch someone, and their gene disease would vanish just like that.
But now, staring at Samuel who was fully beastified, Lexie kept running her hand over the giant wolf’s fur for ages, but he didn’t respond at all. That made her seriously start to freak out.
‘What the hell? Why could I save people before, but now it’s not working?‘ Lexie thought, her anxiety spiking.
Just as Lexie was starting to panic, a few doctors in white coats rushed in from outside.
They burst through the door, pulled a treatment pod out of their storage space, and hauled the giant wolf into it in no time.
As soon as the pod powered up, a soft glow filled the chamber, wrapping the giant wolf in light.
Lexie stood anxiously by, eyes locked on the pod, silently begging the universe for a miracle.
The doctors were hustling around, tweaking the machines and working the controls, their faces intense and all business.
Seeing how serious they looked, and with the pod beeping nonstop, Lexie felt her anxiety ratchet up.

Right now, she just wanted this new guy she’d barely met to survive and come out of this healthy.
Lexie watched, her eyes full of hope, as the pod’s lights went dark.
The doctors, who’d been all business a second ago, let out a deep sigh and just stood there, not moving.
Seeing that, Lexie stepped up, unable to hold back her question.
“Doctors, how’s Samuel? Is he better now?” Lexie asked.
“No, he’s… beyond saving. What a waste to lose a genius like him,” one of the doctors said.
After a long sigh, the doctor turned to his colleague and spoke in a grave tone, “Notify the Tucker family immediately. Tell them their heir’s genes have deteriorated too quickly. He’s beyond help.
“Have them take him home and prepare for the worst.”
Lexie watched as the doctors moved the giant wolf back onto the floor, put the treatment pod away, and pulled out a body bag, about to stuff him in it.
“Wait, stop. He’s still alive. He’s still breathing. He’s not dead yet. You can’t just put him in there,” Lexie blurted
out.
“He’s definitely still conscious. Do you have any idea how awful that would be for him if you zipped him up in that bag right now?” she pleaded,
Lexie yanked the body bag off Samuel and shielded him with her body, her voice trembling with urgency.
“Kid, there’s nothing we can do. His genes are deteriorating way too fast. It’s like he was hit with a gene degradation agent. There’s just no coming back from this,” one of the doctors said.
“Even if we don’t put him in the body bag now, he’s not going to make it much longer anyway,” another doctor added.
“Then… at least wait until he’s actually gone before you do that. You can’t just do this now. He’s a beastman, not some lifeless thing. Doing this now would just make it worse for him,” Lexie pleaded.
Lexie planted herself in front of the giant wolf, refusing to let anyone get close.
Seeing Lexie stand her ground, the doctors exchanged glances, let out a long sigh, and finally relented.
One said, “Alright, since you won’t budge, just stay with him and be there for him in his final moments.
“Wait until the Tucker family gets here, and then you can take care of things.”
With that, the doctors filed out one after another.
Once the doctors left, Eric, who’d been standing off to the side, couldn’t help but mock.
“What a laughable sense of compassion,” Eric said with a sneer.
Chapter 64
“Eric, what did you just say?” Lexie asked.
She lifted her head, locking eyes with Eric’s unapologetically mocking face, her tone steady and serious.
Eric said, “I said that’s just pathetic sympathy. Stuff like that happens all the time around here. Dozens, maybe even a hundred cases every year.
“Maybe yesterday, he was the high and mighty student council president, everyone’s golden boy. But the second his genes started to deteriorate and he beastified, he became less than garbage.
“No one cares if he’s still breathing. The only reason they’re even giving him a proper burial is that he’s the Tucker family’s heir.
“If it was just some random student, they’d haul him off to the incinerator without a second thought.
“But you? Transfer girl, you actually think he’s still got feelings, that he’d be upset about all this?
“You know what? With your pathetic compassion, when the Tucker family shows up and sees Samuel isn’t zipped up in the body bag, they’ll just dump him at the crematorium without a second thought.”
Lexie shot back, “No, I don’t believe it. That’s impossible. Didn’t you just say Samuel is the Tucker family’s heir?
“If something happened to their heir, wouldn’t they be upset?”
“Upset? Give me a break! We’re all engineered with gene tech, grown in Genesis Pods. From day one, we’re raised by strict family rules and put through brutal training just to make it this far.
“Every family chooses their heirs by weeding out the weak. It’s pure survival of the fittest.
“If one heir doesn’t measure up, there are countless beastmen lined up to take his place.
“Samuel’s genes failed him today. There are plenty of others just waiting to step in and snatch that spot.
“He dies today, and by tomorrow, the Tucker family will have a brand new heir. As for him? Nobody will even remember where he ends up after this.
“And you’re actually feeling sorry for a guy like that, and won’t even let the doctors zip him up in a body bag? “Seriously, what else is that if not pathetic sympathy?”
