Chapter 77
Chapter 77
“It’s just a regular nine–tailed fox, not a beastman. Dr. Cole checked it himself,” Lexie said.
“If it really were a beastman from the nine–tailed fox clan, there’s no way I’d keep it as a pet,” she added.
At her words, Samuel’s doubts only grew stronger instead of fading away.
He frowned at her, trying to read her face, searching for any sign of hesitation, but she looked completely at
case.
Am I overthinking this?‘ he wondered.
Still, something about the fox felt off.
Samuel’s gaze landed on the little fox again. He studied it closely, looking for anything unusual.
But after staring at it for a long time, all he could see was its gorgeous purple fur and nine fluffy tails. Nothing stood out.
‘Maybe I really am overthinking it,‘ he thought.
He shook his head helplessly and turned back to Lexie. “Hill, where did you get this little fox?”
“I found it outside Dr. Cole’s clinic. It was almost gone, and I just couldn’t leave it there,” she replied.
“Later on, both Dr. Cole and I wondered if it might be a young beastman, but after Dr. Cole checked it out himself and said it was just a mutated fox, I decided to keep it,” she added.
Hearing her account, Samuel reached out and gently stroked the little fox.
Something still didn’t sit right. It didn’t feel like just a fox. It felt more like a beastman.
But he had no proof.
Lexie asked, worry clear in her voice, “Samuel, any idea why it grew so much overnight?
“And it’s been sleeping all morning. We’ve been trying to wake it up for a while now, but it still won’t open its eyes. Could it be sick?”
Samuel said, “Hill, it’s probably going through a rapid growth phase, and its body might be struggling to keep up with the nutrient demands. That’s why it’s in such a deep sleep now.
“Once it wakes up, make sure to give it plenty of nutrient fluid. When its body finally gets enough nutrients, it won’t be sleeping all the time anymore.
“As for the rapid growth, it might just be it’s a mutated fox. I’ve seen some mutated foxes grow larger than feral beasts.”
“Larger than feral beasts? How big are we talking?” Lexie asked, her eyes full of curiosity.

Samuel paused, then gestured vaguely with his hands. “Maybe even bigger than a big mecha,” he said.
“Whoa, that’s huge. If my Violet ever gets that big, does that mean I could ride it?” Lexie blurted out, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
“If Violet could really be my ride, I’d be the coolest person around!” she added, grinning from ear to ear.
Hearing Lexie say that, Samuel, who was examining the nine–tailed fox, froze for a moment.
Something seemed to occur to him. He asked in an offhand tone, like it was no big deal, “Hill, do you like riding on a beastman?”
“Kind of yes, kind of no,” Lexie said with a shrug.
“What do you mean?” Samuel asked, totally baffled.
“Well, if it’s someone I know and their beast form looks really badass, I’d actually love to take a ride,” Lexie said with a grin.
“But if it’s like a lizard or some creepy hard–shelled bug, hard pass,” she added, shaking her head.
“And if it’s a caterpillar? I’d totally freak out. No way I’d ever sit on something like that,” she said, making a face.
“What about my beast form? Do you like it, Hill?” Samuel asked, sounding a little hopeful.
“Like it? I freaking love it. Samuel, your beast form is a giant white wolf, huge and super fluffy! Petting you is the best, seriously. Who wouldn’t love that?” Lexie replied, grinning from ear to ear.
When Lexie said she liked his beast form, Samuel couldn’t help but grin.
‘Hill likes my beast form. Does that mean he likes me too?‘ he thought, his heart fluttering with hope.
The thought alone sent a quiet thrill through him.
“Hill, your little fox is fine. It’s just growing fast and needs some rest. Once it wakes up, just make sure to give it plenty of nutrient fluid,” Samuel said.
“Alright, I’ve got things to do, so I’m heading out. If you ever need anything, you know where to find me,” he added.
“Thanks, Samuel,” Lexie said.
“Come on, Hill, you never need to thank me. Not with me,” Samuel replied.
As he was leaving, Samuel couldn’t resist. He reached out and gently ruffled Lexie’s hair.
The softness of her hair made his heart race, thumping wildly in his chest.
He glanced at her, who looked so innocent and clueless, and suddenly realized that he was falling for this little beastman who’d saved his life.

The realization sent him moving quickly toward the door, almost as if he were fleeing.
He was afraid she would notice the flush creeping up his neck.
After Samuel left, Lexic looked at the purple fox still fast asleep on her bed.
She wasn’t sure if she was just imagining things, but the little fox seemed even larger than before.
Worried it might be low on energy, she hugged it close and helped it drink two vials of high–grade nutrient fluid. Then she tucked it into its own little nest and lay down on her bed, quickly drifting off to sleep.
In the middle of the night, a soft sound came from the shell she’d hidden away. It was so quiet that she, deep in sleep, didn’t hear a thing.
But the purple fox curled up on the floor snapped awake in an instant.
The moment its eyes opened, they met a pair of dazzling, rainbow–colored eyes staring right back at it. For a second, it was so startled that it almost forgot to breathe.
“Damn, stupid fox, you’re still kicking? Not only alive, but sleeping in my mate’s room? What the hell is wrong with you?” Kaelen roared.
Before the nine–tailed fox could even process what was happening, someone whacked it hard on the head.
The next second, the groggy fox got yanked up by one of its tails and ruthlessly chucked straight out the window.
“Pathetic thing. Trying to steal my mate? Are you asking to be shredded?” Kaelen added.
Through the window, he shot the fox a look of pure disgust, then slammed the window shut without a second thought.
‘Damn fox. Got tricked and ended up like this. Serves it right for being weak,‘ he sneered to himself.
‘A clingy loser like it has no place in my mate’s space,‘ he thought with a scowl.
After mentally roasting the fox, Kaelen turned around, his expression instantly melting into something soft, almost tender. With a look of quiet satisfaction, he walked over to the bed and gazed at Lexie, who was sleeping soundly.
