After Lexie drifted off, the little beast beside her carefully scooted closer and sprawled out lazily at her side, curling up for a nap right along with her.

Lexie slept like a rock this time. She couldn’t tell if it was because she’d spent all last night lost in steamy dreams, leaving her totally wiped out today.

Either way, Lexie slept so deeply, but somehow woke up feeling even more exhausted.

She wondered if she was just imagining things, but she kept feeling like something was off with her body.

But as for what exactly was wrong, Lexie was too out of it to figure it out.

When Lexie finally woke up, it was the noise that roused her. As soon as she opened her eyes, she could hear voices calling out her name from far away.

It wasn’t just one personthere were several people calling her. Lexie took a while to clear her head before she finally came to her senses.

She’d ended up sleeping until evening on the back hill. When she checked the time, she realized it was already night.

I haven’t gone back yet, so William and the others must be worried.

But if they’re so worried, why haven’t they tried to call my Optic Brain number?she wondered.

Though still confused, Lexie shook off the fog in her head and got to her feet, calling out toward the lights below the hill.

William, I’m here! Liam, Liam, Liam, I’m over here!

Before she knew it, someone down the hill shouted back, and she was quickly surrounded by a crowd of

animals.

Wait, nothey were beastmen in their beast forms.

Lexie’s eyes sparkled with light at all the fluffy creatures around her, but just then, out of nowhere, a shadow fell over her head.

The next second, a giant eagle swooped down from the sky. As soon as it landed, it transformed back into his human formWilliam Hawk.

William rushed over, his voice thick with relief. Hill, you finally showed up! I went back to the dorm and you weren’t there, and when I tried calling your Optic Brain, no one picked up. I was losing my mind.

I was even panicking about how I’d explain this to Dr. Cole if you really disappeared. If you went missing, I don’t know what I’d do.

William, towering over her, didn’t hesitatehe wrapped Lexie up in a fierce hug the moment he saw her.

As he poured out his worries, Lexie could hear the tremble in his voice, as if he was on the verge of tears.

Lexie instantly felt super awkward. She never expected that just crashing here for a nap would somehow last all the way till nightfall.

She realized William must’ve totally freaked out when he couldn’t find her.

William, sorry! I just crashed here for a nap, didn’t think I’d pass out like that.

Sorry for making you worry,Lexie apologized, feeling guilty.

I’m fine, as long as you’re okay. You have no idea how many times I searched all over this hill, but I just couldn’t find you no matter what.

Hill, just now I was thinking, if I really couldn’t find you, I’d have to answer to Dr. Cole and try to explain myself.

If I ever lost you, there’s no way I could live with myself. Hill, you nearly gave me a heart attack.

Sorry, Liam! I totally crashed and slept like a log. But when I checked my Optic Brain, there weren’t any missed calls at all!Lexie said, still puzzled.

Serenus stepped up and explained, Hill, there are signal blockers set up on the back hill, so nobody’s messages can get through here.

Plus, this is where we usually train, so we’ve got camouflage gear all over the place. That’s why William kept circling overhead but still couldn’t find you.

I was just about to send someone to take down the camouflage when we finally heard you’d been found.”

Serenus had rushed over, and when he saw Lexie safe and sound, the knot in his chest finally loosened.

When he got back and heard Lexie was missing, he knew just how big of a deal this was.

Just today, he’d gotten word from Dr. Cole that Prince Nelson’s people had already infiltrated the area, and Dr. Cole had told him to keep a close eye on Lexie.

He’d always figured that on his own turf, no matter how far the Aetherion Federation tried to reach, there was no way they could get to him here.

But he never expected that in just one afternoon, Lexie would vanish without a trace.

Thank goodness it was just a false alarm.

If he ever found out Lexie was really missing, he’d hunt down the Aetherion Federation crew and make Prince Nelson payno matter what it took.

He had no one to hold him back, so he wasn’t scared of the Crown Prince of the Aetherion Federation one bit.

He might’ve mellowed out over time, but if anyone messed with someone he cared about, he’d go back to his old ways and raise hell in this world all over again.

Now that he saw Lexie was safe, Serenus turned to the students who’d come searching for her in their beast forms and spoke gently.

Alright, everyone, HillLexie’s fine, so you can all head back. And listendon’t go exaggerating or gossiping about what happened today. Let’s not make things harder for Hill.

Hill’s background is special, and if the wrong people catch wind of this and try to use it against him, none of us want that, do we?

Serenus, we’re not idiots. If anything happened to Hill, who’s gonna help us out for free when our gene disease acts up?one of the students said.

Exactly, we’re not blabbermouths. No way we’d go around talking about this, another chimed in.

Don’t worry, Serenus. Not only will we keep our mouths shut, we’ll make sure nobody else spreads it either,a third student added.

Yeah, Hill’s basically the school’s darling now. Who’d even dare mess with her or try to hurt her? If anyone tries, I’ll be the first to step in,” another student declared.

Yeah, totally!Everyone joined in.

Once the students had all promised to keep quiet, Serenus waved them off. Then he turned to Lexie, who was standing shoulder to shoulder with William, and said in a gentle voice.

Lex, Dr. Cole secretly reached out to me today. He said things are about to blow up between the Empire and the Federation, and Amyathe androidis barely hanging on.

He also found out that Federation spies have already infiltrated Bolrasai Planet. Odds are, they’re here for

you.

So for now, you’d better stay away from Dr. Cole’s place, just to be safe.

The Federation’s already got their eyes on him, and if you show up there, it’s way too dangerous.

And Dr. Cole also said, if anything seems off, I’m supposed to get you out of Bolrasai Planet right away,Serenus said.

Leave? Wait, then where would we even go?Lexie asked.

We’ll head to my home planet, Lyson. It’s hidden away, and it’s

my turf.

If the Federation dares to set foot on Lyson, I’ll make them regret it.

So, Lex, for now, you’d better stay with William and don’t leave his side.

If you guys notice anything off, let me know right awayso I can get you out of here ASAP, alright?Serenus said, his tone steady but serious.
