Chapter 88
“Oh! I understand,” Lexie replied.
Seeing Lexie nod obediently, Serenus’s stern expression softened a bit.

He wanted to reach out and stroke Lexie’s hair, but then he remembered Lexie was actually a female.
It wouldn’t be proper for him to be overly affectionate with her.
With that in mind, Serenus could only gently rest his hand on Lexie’s shoulder and said softly, “Let’s go. Let’s all head back.”
“Okay,” Lexie replied.
Thanks to Serenus’s escort, Lexie finally made it back to her dorm. But when she reached the door, she found herself in a bind.
The problem was, her Tumblebeast was just way too massive. It was this huge, round lump, and no matter how she tried to shove it in–sideways, straight on, or any other way–it just wasn’t happening.
To make things worse, Lexie couldn’t even tell where its face was, much less what it was feeling.
So there they were–Lexie, Serenus, and the beast–stuck awkwardly at the doorway, drawing curious looks from every student who walked by. Honestly, it was super embarrassing.
“What am I supposed to do? I can’t just leave Fluffy outside, can I? It’s so well–behaved. What if someone picks on it in the middle of the night?” Lexie worried aloud.
Hearing Lexie’s concern, William stared at the massive furball trailing after her.
To be honest, he was just as stumped.
No way could they leave it outside, but it was just impossible to squeeze it into the dorm.
Just as Lexie and William were getting anxious over the giant furball, someone walked over from outside.
Lexie turned around–this guy looked kind of familiar, but for the life of her, she couldn’t remember his
name.
“You are…?” Lexie asked.
Seeing Lexie hesitate, Evan’s face showed a flash of disappointment, but a moment later, he was all shy smiles again.
“I’m Evan Leigh, the new owner of Tumblebeast. I gave it to you today,” he said.
“Oh! It’s you! Sorry, I have a terrible memory for faces. I really didn’t mean to forget,” Lexie said, feeling a bit embarrassed.

“It’s fine,” Evan replied.

Lexie glanced over at Evan, who was already blushing after barely saying a word. She asked, a little confused, “Hey, Evan, what brings you here? Did you come to take Fluffy back?”
After all, he was the real owner of the beast. She’d saved him earlier, and caught up in the moment, he’d said he wanted to give it to her. Now that he’d calmed down, maybe he’s changed his mind. Lexie could totally understand that.
Evan quickly shook his head and waved his hands.
“No, that’s not it. I’m not here to take Fluffy back.
“Hill, I actually came here to give you something,” he said, handing her an item.
Lexie took the thing Evan handed her and examined it closely, but she honestly couldn’t figure out what it was supposed to be.
“This is a shrinker. Just hang it around your beast’s neck, and it’ll shrink down to a much smaller size–like magic.
“I totally forgot to give it to you earlier, and I was worried you’d run into this exact problem. Hill, just clip the shrinker onto Tumblebeast’s neck, and it will be able to squeeze right inside your room, no problem,” Evan explained.
Hearing that, Lexie tried to figure out how to put the shrinker on Tumblebeast’s neck.
But then she realized–where was its neck?
No matter how hard she tried, Lexie couldn’t even find Tumblebeast’s face, let alone its neck.
“Hey, Evan, I don’t think it even has a neck?”
Lexie pointed at the furball, feeling completely at a loss.
“It does have a neck, just a really short one. Hill, Tumblebeast is super ticklish—just scratch it a bit and it’ll pop its neck right out for you,” Evan said with a grin.
Lexie didn’t go for the tickle. Instead, she smoothed Fluffy’s fur and said gently,
“Fluffy, I don’t want to make you uncomfortable. How about you stretch your neck out a little so I can put this shrinker on? Would that be okay?”
As Lexie spoke, Fluffy slowly stretched its neck out–on the opposite side.
Great, so all this time she’d been talking to its butt.
Lexie thought to herself, ‘Seriously? I can’t believe I was talking to its butt. So awkward.‘
She quickly hurried to the other side, and as soon as she clipped the shrinker onto Fluffy’s neck, the massive furball instantly shrank down to a manageable size.

Finally, it could squeeze through the door.

As Lexie was about to head inside, Evan, who had been standing off to the side, quickly tugged at her sleeve, looking a little embarrassed.
“Hey, Hill, can I add you on Optic Brain?” he asked.

“Uh?” Lexie turned to him, a little surprised.
Seeing Lexie hesitate, Evan explained, “Hill, I know a lot about Tumblebeast. If you ever run into any problems with it, just hit me up on Optic Brain. I can help you out right away.”
“Sounds good, let’s swap Optic Brain contacts. Evan, if you ever feel sick or anything, just come straight to my dorm and find me.
“Whenever I’m around, I’ll help you out for sure,” Lexie promised.
“Alright. Thanks, Hill.”
“Hey, we’re tumble beast buddies now. You really don’t have to thank me.”
Hearing that, Evan’s cheeks turned even redder as he glanced at Lexie, looking extra bashful.
“Uh, Hill, I–I’ll head out now,” Evan stammered.
“Bye! See you tomorrow!”
“Tomorrow, Tumb-”
As Lexie disappeared inside, Evan slowly pulled his hand back. He clenched his fists, and with every few steps, he kept glancing over his shoulder at her dorm door, hoping to catch another glimpse of her.
Honestly, before today, Evan had never really liked other beastmen. But after spending time with Lexie, his heart skipped a beat for no reason at all.
He didn’t know why, but in that moment, he realized he’d actually fallen for a little beastman named Hill.
‘Too bad he doesn’t see me that way at all. Right now, I’m not even on his radar as a friend, let alone anything else, Evan thought.
And as for anything more, Evan didn’t even dare to dream about it.
‘After today, Hill has become the hottest topic at the whole military academy–everyone is talking about how he can cure gene disease in beastmen with just a simple touch.
“There are plenty of people secretly crushing on him, and honestly, every single one of them is the cream of the crop at school.
‘Even if Hill is into beastmen, how can I be sure he’d ever like me?‘
Thinking about that, Evan’s heart was full of bitterness.

But it was okay. They’d see each other again tomorrow, wouldn’t they?
Back in her dorm, Lexie found that her little nine–tailed fox just couldn’t stand Tumblebeast.

It was so extreme, the fox wouldn’t even let the beast take a single step closer. The look of utter disdain on its face left Lexie completely dumbfounded.
