Back then, Silas felt excited, realizing that he and Noelle had shared an intimate moment.

When Silas came back to the room, Noelle was gone.

Noelle stirred slightly but did not wake. Instead, she leaned more comfortably against him.

Silas let out a quiet breath.

For years, he had convinced himself that letting her go had been the right thing to do.

That staying silent had protected her happiness.

Silas lowered his voice and murmured, “Noelle… maybe this was my fault.”
