The Lies Behind Her Marriage novel Chapter 225

Silas's Apology.

“I’m sorry. I couldn’t control myself that night,” Silas said. “Then the next morning, I recognized you, and I remembered the things we did together, vaguely, but being completely naked told me everything."

"I was so mad because I was sure that someone had slipped something into my drinks, and I also found it strange how that man I bumped into was carrying your keycard!”

“I slipped out of the hotel room to speak to the hotel manager and the security supervisor. I wanted answers!” Silas added. “I also wanted answers. I did not mean to leave you alone back then. I meant to come back, but when I returned, you were already gone.”

Noelle’s mind wandered to that day. ‘So that’s why Brian did not have his key card with him.’ She recalled this specifically because he had to pay for the missing card.

“When I found you, you were already with Brian at the lobby,” Silas narrated. “I was confused. I wondered if you remembered, and at the same time, I did not want to cause you any trouble. After all, you were with Brian.”

“I did not want to hurt you or ruin your reputation.”

“Then my parents took me to the hospital for a drug test. We needed to have it done before it got flushed out of my system,” Silas shared.

Silas held both her arms. “I had you in mind. I swear to it, but at the same time, I was worried about what you might think of me.”

“I can share the police reports with you—hold on,” Silas said. He disappeared and left the door open.

At that moment, Noelle saw Serena.

Clearly, Serena had heard it all. It was written all over her face—the way her face was pale and the way her mouth remained open.

“Oh, my God. Noelle, you were that woman,” Serena muttered.

But Noelle was still processing the information.

She couldn’t speak.

She did not know how to accept it, and now… she did not know what to believe.

When Silas came back, he presented her with pieces of evidence.

The names of Melvin Vander and Janice Bennet came up.

Noelle read the words that Silas had mentioned to her.

Toxicology report.

GHB.

Of course, Noelle had heard about this scandal. It was all over the news. Noelle never believed it, and later, Silas had been cleared of the accusations.

Then, Noelle remembered the polygraph test that everyone had been talking about weeks ago.

Silas had taken it to prove he was not lying, but the test also revealed that he had been with a woman that night.

It was just that Noelle never knew it had happened on the same night she believed she had slept with Brian. The news coverage never mentioned exact dates, only vaguely saying it was seven years ago.

So Silas couldn’t be lying. He had nothing to gain by owning up to it now. In fact, he could be held responsible for her!

“Silas, if this is true, you should have said something,” Noelle said, her voice rising. She couldn’t help but feel betrayed as well.

“I know,” Silas admitted. He kneeled before her again. “I know I was wrong. I’ll spend the rest of my life making it right.”

“I regretted it. I thought keeping it quiet was the best solution for you—for your happiness. I knew how much you were in love with Brian.”

“And you didn’t seem to remember or know. That left me confused and afraid.”

“We were also dealing with a serious setup back then, and we even received a false lead about Serena’s whereabouts. You know how we only found Serena a few years ago,” Silas gulped. “So it took me a while to check on you.”

Noelle had to admit, she probably wouldn’t have. She would have trusted Brian’s words— that he was the man she slept with.

Moreover, she didn’t have any feelings for Silas.

The only men she had ever given her love to were Brian and the boy she thought was hers.

But now that this had come to light, it became crystal clear to her that she had showered her love on the wrong people.

The baby she had loved and carried for nine months wasn’t Benson.

Benson was Gwen’s child, and most likely Brian’s too.

The fact that Brian and Gwen had switched the babies without any conscience only meant that they knew… or possibly had orchestrated what happened to her that night.

Could she have been drugged as well?

Who was that man who had her keycard?

“The man you—” her words faltered. “The man you bumped into and accidentally swapped keycards with wasn’t Brian. He was the only one who had the second key card?”

“No,” Silas said firmly. “I still had awareness at that time. I would have known it was Brian. That man definitely was not.”

Noelle felt heartbroken again.

She had known Brian all her life, but clearly, she didn’t know him that well.

It turned out that knowing someone for years only meant they knew exactly how to hurt you.

Yet again, rage consumed her.
