The Lies Behind Her Marriage novel Chapter 228

The Missing Piece.

“Gwen gave birth when she was 36 weeks pregnant. According to the medical records, she was induced,” Silas said, putting the record down on the table.

“So they must have planned it out,” Serena muttered.

Noelle’s hand trembled as she took the medical records and reviewed them.

Gwen gave birth at 36 weeks, while Noelle delivered at 38 weeks. Their pregnancies were only two weeks apart.

Her eyes further narrowed when she saw that the hospital had noted “civil registration deferred by parents.”

“This is it, Silas. This is the proof we need,” Serena suggested. “Silas, we should just have Brian arrested and force the truth out of him.”

They were all in Silas’s office. Noelle had been there the entire afternoon.

She had access to his computer. Silas had set up a different table for her earlier while she was discussing matters with the lawyers.

His assistant had come in and out, offering her tea and snacks. Ultimately, she was treated like a VIP guest.

“I’m afraid this is not enough proof,” Silas said. “What we have is solid proof that Gwen gave birth to a baby boy, but we don’t have proof of the switching.”

“We can’t even file a formal complaint just yet,” Silas added. “The hospital owners are still retrieving surveillance from their archives. It’s been so long that part will take time.”

“My biggest worry is that if we alert Brian or Gwen, they might do something to my son, or hide him further to protect themselves.” Silas turned to Serena. “Has my brother-in-law gotten any information on Janice?”

Serena leaned back, raising a brow. “Brother-in-law? Just because you need something from him, you have to kiss his ass?”

“Relax,” Silas replied. “You’re both headed there anyway. I’m letting Nathan feel the title is within reach. It keeps him motivated.”

As if on cue, someone knocked on the door.

Nathaniel walked in, carrying folders in his hand.

After Serena greeted him and they both shared a brief kiss, Nathaniel settled in. He handed Silas the folders and said, “So I talked to Janice Bennet and got the information out of her. Apparently, she did end up sleeping with a stranger.”

“You see, Noelle,” Nathaniel explained. “I was working with the same soldiers who helped me investigate Melvin and his accomplices. We had also gone through the evidence from Silas’s drugging incident, so it was easy for them to connect the pieces.”

“Because in a way, what happened to Noelle was tied to Silas’s drugging,” Serena chimed in.

“It wasn’t meant to be connected,” Nathaniel said thoughtfully, “but somehow fate intertwined both your circumstances.”

He motioned to Noelle. “You and Silas were both drugged. There was an evil plot meant to put you in a compromising situation, yet somehow fate intervened and changed the course of that night.”

“You,” Nathaniel continued, still referring to Noelle, “ended up with Silas instead of that stranger… and my brother-in-law managed to escape Janice Bennet.”

The way Nathaniel said it gave Noelle a great sense of relief. She couldn’t imagine being intimate with that stranger, especially someone sent to take advantage of her.

“It’s good,” Noelle said. “Actually, hearing this now gives me comfort knowing I spent that night with Silas.”

Noelle felt her ears burn a little, but she forced herself to focus on what mattered more.

“But I guess now what we need to prioritize is finding my son—” she turned to Silas. “Our son. If confronting Brian now isn’t the best solution, then what else can we do?”
