The Lies Behind Her Marriage novel Chapter 230

The Boy Who Must Not Be Seen.

“Mr. Kingsley, this came for you,” Brian’s assistant said. “It looks urgent.”

Brian frowned as he looked at the long envelope. It came from Harrison & Cole Law Office, the best law firm in town.

He was in his office, reviewing his emails.

Brian had a lot to catch up on because he had been away while his son was sick, and Noelle had neglected her responsibilities as a mother. So he was already irritated by this… letter.

When he opened it, he was even more surprised.

It was a divorce petition!

Noelle had really gathered the courage to file for divorce! Not only that, she hired the best lawyers in town.

How was this possible?

How could she afford Harrison & Cole Law Office? Only the likes of VanderMed Technologies could afford their services.

Brian’s hands trembled as he went over the document.

Noelle wanted half of their marital assets.

The documents cited infidelity, fraud, and deliberate deception as the grounds for divorce. Yet the document did not fully explain the reasons for citing fraud and deception.

“What is she referring to?” Brian said through gritted teeth.

The strangest part was how Noelle did not want custody of Benson.

He wanted to call Noelle, but couldn’t. The latter had already blocked his number.

Just then, he noticed there was another document. When he checked it, he saw it was a termination notice for the legal use of NOBRI!

And the main reason for the termination was ‘Non-Payment of Royalties.’

This had never been an issue in the past. Noelle had never asked for royalties because NOBRI was contributing to the company’s returns, and that also provided her with a stable income. But what was this? Why was she now asking for royalties?

But deep inside, that wasn’t what he feared the most.

Noelle had been unresponsive for two full days now.

She seemed determined to leave him, and truthfully, he didn’t know if he could live without her.

Not that he loved her. He used to, but things had changed.

Brian loved Gwen more.

Noelle had been his best friend since childhood. She had seen him through every stage of his life—his awkward teenage years, his ambitions in college, and the long nights when he struggled to build his career. No one understood Brian the way she did.

He may have loved Gwen and desired her romantically, but there was always a sense of security in knowing Noelle would never leave him.

She may have threatened him with divorce a few times now, but he always believed Noelle did not have the courage to follow through, especially with Benson around.

Just as he was drowning in these thoughts, his phone buzzed with an alarm. It read: [Annual Transfer to Port Arcliff Children’s Haven.]

A hiss left his lips.

He suddenly remembered the wrong he had done to Noelle.

His heart raced, and guilt washed over him.

Brian truly loved Gwen, but sometimes her methods were simply too cruel.

But then again, that was what Brian loved about Gwen. Apart from being beautiful and presentable, she was ambitious—a go-getter.
