The Lies Behind Her Marriage novel Chapter 265

Body Scanner Diagnosis.

Along with Serena and Silas’s birthday celebration, they were featuring the new model of Vanguard, the AI body scanner.

They created a compact walk-through scanner model capable of conducting rapid, non-invasive screening for basic physiological conditions. While not comprehensive, it delivered efficient preliminary diagnostics.

During the after-party, Serena mumbled, “I don’t feel well. Maybe I should get scanned.”

“Love, you are scaring me,” Nathaniel said, feeling her skin.

“You do look pale,” Alice remarked. “You barely touched your food.”

“You’ve said no to alcohol all night,” Xavier commented.

“Getting scanned would be a great idea,” Noelle suggested.

“Well, I might as well,” Serena said, getting up.

Nathaniel assisted Serena to where the body scanner was. She lined up with the rest of the employees, even though they offered to let her go first.

“It’s okay. I’ll fall in line,” Serena smiled politely.

“Tomorrow, let’s go see a doctor,” Nathaniel said. “You’ve been having those headaches again.”

From the kidnapping to dealing with Melvin’s case, and recently helping Silas with Theo and Noelle, they had been so busy that Serena had delayed her doctor’s appointment. Seeing the worry on Nathaniel’s face, she said, “Okay. Okay.”

“But maybe I just lack sleep,” Serena added.

She glared at Nathaniel. “Someone’s been keeping me up at night.”

Nathaniel’s mouth fell open. He leaned in and whispered, “Love, don’t blame me for losing sleep when you’re the one starting it every night.”

He gestured vaguely at her. “You look at me—I’m done.”

“You hug me? Worse.”

“You breathe near me? Absolutely no chance.”

He sighed dramatically. “At this point, I’m just a victim of your daily seduction.”

Serena, “...”

It was Serena’s turn to freeze, her mouth falling open.

What?

How did he turn that around?

That wasn’t how it worked!

He’d kiss her, and her brain would short-circuit.

He’d touch her, and she’d completely forget her dignity.

Serena narrowed her eyes at him.

She was the victim here. Clearly.

“Oh, look. It’s your turn, Love,” Nathaniel said, diverting her attention.

Seeing the last employee walk through the body scanner, she braced herself. Serena stepped into Vanguard and waited for the diagnosis.

A few moments later, Vanguard announced, “Congratulations, you are pregnant.”

“Congratulations, you are pregnant.” The words echoed in her head, and goosebumps rose on her skin.

‘What did it say?’ She was still keeping the results to herself, but Nathaniel shouted it aloud.

"We look forward to our new grandchild!" Sterling said with a smile.

“More champagne!” Nathaniel ordered the servers. “Bring out caviar and platters of cheese!”

It would seem as though Nathaniel was determined to put a hole in his wallet that night. But that was okay. Let’s just say he had several wallets to empty.

“Let’s celebrate!” he exclaimed.

Serena laughed. She hugged Nathaniel and said, “Looking at you makes me so happy.”

Nathaniel focused on her. She kissed his lips and declared, “I love you so much.”

“I love you more, always and forever,” he said, and right then and there, they kissed in the middle of the venue, surrounded by their family, friends, and employees.

Serena never felt so secure and contented in her life.

The next day, Nathaniel took Serena for a check-up.

After running an ultrasound, the doctor confirmed she was pregnant with a single baby. “Congratulations, you are six weeks pregnant!”

As to how she got pregnant? Serena could only blame Nathaniel’s seduction.

She half blamed herself for giving in that easily.

***

But Serena and Nathaniel were not the only ones who had a fruitful night, or morning.

Somewhere, in a luxury apartment, two best friends woke up in each other’s arms, completely naked.

“Oh, my god. I can’t believe we did that,” one said.

“I know,” the other replied. “It’s the first time… I did that to you.”
