The Lies Behind Her Marriage novel Chapter 291

Silas’ Promise To Theo.

“This place is so beautiful! It’s so much better compared to the pictures,” Celine said, beaming at the surrounding trees.

Serena smiled, taking in the familiar stretch of pines and the cool mountain air.

“This has always been Serena’s favorite resort,” Nathaniel boasted.

“We love it here, Grandma,” Sebastian said.

“Me too,” Alisa echoed while holding Nathaniel’s hand.

“I’m just glad to be here and take a break from work,” Gavin said, standing behind the group and beaming.

Theo walked up to Serena. He hugged her and said, “Aunt, I missed you.”

“Oh, sweet Theo, I miss you too,” Serena responded.

“God, this reminds me of when you came back into our lives,” Sterling said, taking his turn to embrace Serena.

“Indeed,” Silas smirked, studying Serena’s stomach.

Serena was already eight months pregnant. Her belly was bigger than a melon. For this reason, the couple had decided to live in Velmon until Serena was ready to give birth. It would no longer be convenient to keep staying at the resort.

However, before doing so, they invited the entire family to join them for a quick gender reveal over the weekend.

“I’m so excited!” Alice declared. Naturally, she was there to join the celebration.

“We brought so many gifts, but we couldn’t buy one for a boy or a girl because we didn’t know,” Noelle said, laughing.

“That’s why our gifts are food for Serena,” Xavier said, chuckling.

The resort had prepared one of its gazebos for the gathering. They had the best food for a picnic and, of course, cupcakes for the gender reveal.

Everyone chatted about the progress in Rexam, including their lives.

“We don’t want to rush into our wedding,” Silas said to Serena. “We were thinking of having it after your surgery, should you decide on it after you give birth.”

Noelle nodded.

“Or you can have the wedding after I give birth,” Serena said, turning to Nathaniel. “Right, love?”

“I mean, I can’t attend your wedding bald!” Serena added, and everyone laughed.

Nathaniel also chuckled. The laugh lines on his handsome face softened. “We will see, love.”

“Yes,” Bianca confirmed. “It will depend on the urgency.”

“Sweetheart, if it makes you feel better, there are always wigs,” Celine said, and more laughter echoed in the air.

They all talked about her upcoming surgery as if it were normal. It helped that Bianca had gone through neurosurgery herself, so the anxiety surrounding it had long faded.

“You still look sexy and beautiful as hell,” Alice remarked. “You don’t look like you are pregnant at all!”

Serena smiled at her best friend. Carrying twins again had been tough, but Nathaniel did everything he could to make it easier for her.

The resort’s kitchen was always open to her, stocked with every snack she could possibly crave. He made sure she never had to ask twice.

He was always there for her, giving her massages, steadying her when nausea hit, and staying by her side every night, as if leaving was never an option.

For the entire three months that they had been staying in the mountains, Nathaniel had only left four times, and he had only been gone for three hours at most. Most of the time, he finished his work within the resort. It was Gavin who did most of the traveling.

“But how come mine is blue?” Theo asked, looking at the inside of his cupcake.

Silas showed his cupcake. “Mine is blue as well.”

“Mine is pink,” Xavier said.

“Ah! It’s like Ali and Bastin!” Alice screamed. “Congratulations, you two!”

Alice embraced Serena. After that, Nathaniel explained to everyone, “The younger twin is the boy. The girl is the older twin. When the pregnancy reaches thirty-five weeks, Serena will have to stay in the hospital so we can keep the babies inside until the younger twin is ready to come out.”

“Have you thought of the names?” Bianca asked, her eyes sparkling.

Serena turned to Bianca. “Well, Mom, you did not get the opportunity the first time, so I wanted you and Nathan to decide on the names this time.”

Bianca was immediately in tears. She sniffed and answered, “Thank you, Serena.”

Meanwhile, Nathaniel was grinning. He declared, “I already have a name in mind.”

The gathering lasted until late in the afternoon.

Serena and Nathaniel were preparing to leave the resort, so everyone else waited for them. They were heading out at the same time.

While waiting, Silas and everyone else toured the resort.

At some point, Theo walked over to the edge of the reforestation grounds. When Silas walked up to him, his son turned and asked, “Dad, did you find Evie?”

Silas let out a sigh of regret. A few months ago, Theo had asked him to search for Evie. His son wanted to reconnect with his friend from the orphanage. He rubbed Theo’s back and said, “I’m afraid not, son. The orphanage’s last known address of Evie’s adoptive parents has changed.”

“But don’t worry,” Silas assured him. “One day, I’ll find Evie.”
