The Lies Behind Her Marriage novel Chapter 296

To Serena.

“Are you sure he’s my husband?” Serena asked. “He looks too good. This feels like a scam.”

Nathaniel, "..."

The man froze in his stance. He could not believe what he was hearing. Could he just kiss the hell out of his woman and knock some memory into her? Right here, right now?

He was really tempted to act all shameless.

“Serena, are you sure you don’t remember Nathan? He is the founder of this institute and the CEO of two multi-billion-dollar companies. Do you remember Kline BioSolutions and NC Pharmacies?” Doctor Weiss asked.

“Mr. Nathaniel Thorne has been very devoted to you, Serena,” Doctor Kane said.

“So I married rich, handsome, and loyal?” Serena asked, her eyes rounding. “Wow. That’s amazing. Did I win the lottery?”

At that point, Nathaniel was holding on to his sanity. His jaw clenched, and so did his hands.

“Why is he looking at me like that?” Serena stared at him. “Did I break his heart or something?”

Nathaniel internally collapsed.

However, before he could react, Serena’s brows met. She said, “I do remember being with someone. Hmm… tall, handsome, overly intense…”

Then, Serena studied Nathaniel seriously. “Yeah, that… certainly looks like him.”

Nathaniel: “...”

Her lips curved. “Relax, Mr. Thorne. I remember you. You’re just more dramatic than I remember.”

Nathaniel let out a sigh of relief. He threw his head back and rested his hand on his chest.

The doctors laughed. It was Doctor Kane who said, “Well, I’d say she’s neurologically intact.”

“Yes, Mrs. Thorne is sharp as ever,” Doctor Weiss commented.

“Serena, you almost gave me a heart attack,” Nathaniel remarked.

He marched right in front of her and crashed his lips into hers. He almost missed because he did it too fast.

Nathaniel kissed her hard… and long.

He did not care what the doctors and nurses would say.

By the time he pulled away, Serena was out of breath. Her face flushed as she whispered, “Nathan, not here.”

The doctors laughed again.

“That’s okay, Serena. We already know Mr. Thorne is very in love with you,” Doctor Kane commented. “He was always by your side while you were asleep.”

“Wait, how long was I asleep?” Serena asked.

Nathaniel raised his hand, signaling the doctors that it was his turn to speak.

He straightened and said seriously, “Love, you were asleep for a month. Every single day, I was right by your side. I took care of you—cleaned you, monitored your vitals, made sure you were comfortable…”

He paused, then added with emphasis, “I didn’t leave you.”

“I became your most favorite person in the world,” he declared.

Nathaniel smiled, satisfied with himself. Unfortunately, the doctors behind him laughed.

Serena’s eyes narrowed. Only then did Nathaniel correct himself.

“Okay, I might have exaggerated,” Nathaniel admitted. “You were asleep for a little more than a week.”

“I love you, Mommy,” Alisa said.

“Will you be home soon?” Sebastian asked.

Serena nodded, smiling at the two. “Yes, I’ll be home soon.”

Looking at his family, Nathaniel felt at ease. With Serena awake, the greatest challenge was behind them. Life would not be without trials, but at least now, they would face them together.

When Serena was finally discharged, Nathaniel welcomed her home with an intimate celebration at their villa.

It was not grand, but it was filled with everything that mattered—banners, balloons, her favorite food, and the people she loved. Even Norman was there, flown in by Nathaniel without hesitation.

During lunch, Nathaniel gathered everyone’s attention and played a slideshow.

Photos flashed across the LED screen. They showed Serena’s triumphs, her quiet moments, her strength as a mother, and the life she had built. Even the times they had spent apart were there, a reminder that she had always found her way back.

When the slideshow ended, no one spoke for a moment.

Nathaniel stepped forward.

“Serena is the strongest woman I know,” he said. “She carries more than anyone sees, yet she never lets it take away who she is… kind, steady, and full of love.”

He looked at her, his eyes softer than before. “To the woman I love… We are so proud of you.”

He raised his glass. “To the life we still have ahead, and of course, to Serena.”

“To Serena!”

With one storm behind them, it was time to celebrate Silas and Noelle’s wedding, and the day was drawing near.
