The Lies Behind Her Marriage novel Chapter 295

Awake.

“Wah!” Rochelle kept crying while Bianca cradled her.

Nathaniel was still feeding Collin, so he could not take over. However, as soon as his son was done drinking milk and Nathaniel had rested him on his chest, Bianca also rested Rochelle on him.

His daughter immediately hushed.

“Looks like the babies know you are around,” Bianca remarked, smiling.

It was early in the morning the next day. Nathaniel had slept with Sebastian and Alisa, but he awoke, hearing Collin's loud cry. Thus, he took over caring for the twins while the caregivers also took a short rest. Bianca followed soon after.

Prrrrt!

“Oops!” Bianca laughed. “Looks like someone needs a diaper change.”

Collin immediately cried.

“Let me change his diaper,” Bianca offered, but as soon as she held Collin, the little guy cried louder. Collin was squirming as if resisting Bianca’s hold.

“Oh my goodness, what in the world is going on?” Bianca reacted.

“Maybe I should change his diaper,” Nathaniel suggested.

But as soon as Nathaniel gave Rochelle to Bianca, the little girl cried again.

“I guess I’m just going to make this fast,” Nathaniel said, chuckling.

He changed Collin as fast as he could. After that, he returned to the sofa, cradling both twins.

Bianca felt amused at the situation. She took a photo of Nathaniel and said, “Wait till Serena hears about this. She would be proud of you.”

“Ahhh!” a loud cry echoed from the hallway. “Daddy! Daddy!”

It was Alisa.

Her small feet found the room, her face filled with tears.

“Daddy!” Alisa called, rushing up to Nathaniel.

“I’m here, Ali,” Nathaniel said, trying his best to accommodate her while still holding both Collin and Rochelle.

Even with difficulty, and with her siblings around, Nathaniel, Alisa found a way to hug him. “I thought—”

She was catching her breath when she added, “I thought you left… You did not say goodbye.”

“I’m sorry, Ali. I was just taking care of your siblings,” Nathaniel explained.

Sebastian soon walked in. He sighed, seeing Nathaniel. “Ali, don’t scare me like that.”

Like Alisa, Sebastian also found his way to Nathaniel’s side.

Bianca smiled and snapped another photo. She commented, “What a great dad you are, Son.”

Nathaniel smiled. “Thank you, Mom.”

He stayed with the children until lunch, but his whole body was aching to be with his wife. When he asked permission from the kids, he said, “Guys, Mommy needs Daddy. She wants to wake up and see Daddy next to her. I know you miss us, but it won’t be long. We will all be together again.”

“Why can’t we see Mommy?” Sebastian pouted.

First of all, Nathaniel wasn’t comfortable letting the children see Serena in her current state. More than that, the institute had strict infection control protocols for post-operative patients. Thus, the kids had not been allowed to see Serena since the surgery.

“Because Mommy needs a very quiet place right now, and it has to stay very clean so she doesn’t get sick. We don’t want to disturb her while she’s getting better,” Nathaniel explained.

The kids slowly gave an approving nod.

Before Nathaniel left, Sebastian gave him a customized card. He said, “Dad, Ali, and I made this for Mommy. Read it to her tonight.”

Nathaniel nodded with a smile.

He would miss the kids, but he also wanted to be with Serena.

“I’ll be back tomorrow. I promise,” he swore.

He switched roles with Celine and Sterling. They had not cleaned Serena just yet. It was something that Nathaniel wanted to do himself.

After a good rest and time with his kids, Nathaniel felt renewed. He returned to Serena’s side, energized, optimistic, and all smiles as he took care of her through the night.

As he lay beside her, he read the card Sebastian and Alisa had made for her. Their handwriting was crooked and difficult to read, but he tried his best to follow the message.

[Mommy,

Wake up already. We are being good. We promise.

We miss you so much. We love you.

The babies cry a lot.

Daddy looks different without you.
