The Lies Behind Her Marriage novel Chapter 76

Chapter 76: Not Victor’s Daughter

Not Victor’s Daughter.

‘Our son.’

The words flipped a switch inside Nathaniel.

His son needed his blood.

He didn’t have to think it through.

Without asking any questions, he walked back inside, grabbed his phone and wallet, and left. He didn’t bother to change. Clad in

a plain white shirt and pajama pants, he accompanied Serena to Grand Mercy Hospital.

While on the road, he was already making calls. Nathaniel contacted the hospital director.

By the time they arrived, the blood bank was ready for them.

“Mr. Thorne, as per the director’s orders, your blood screening will be prioritized,” the medical technologist said.

Next, he questioned the hospital as to why Sebastian was only placed in a private room.

Serena explained, “They didn’t have any other rooms available.”

Another call to the hospital director changed everything. Within an hour, the hospital cleared the presidential suite, and Sebastian was transferred to the largest room in the facility.

Only then did everything slow down.

Nathaniel finally saw Sebastian with his own eyes.

Still in his home clothes, Nathaniel sat next to the boy and studied him closely. He was struck by Sebastian’s features. Sebastian was asleep, his lashes long and dark. His nose was straight, his features balanced in a way that felt familiar. Nathaniel still couldn’t believe that this little boy was his son. And no, he wouldn’t dare question Serena. Serena took the seat on the opposite side of the bed. The first thing she asked was, “Why are you living in that house?”

That house.

The way she said it made it sound cursed.

Nathaniel took a deep breath and cleared his throat. “I was your mysterious buyer. I never wanted to let go of that house. After you… disappeared, it was the only place where it felt like you were still around. So, I stayed there.”

Serena fell silent. Her attention shifted back to Sebastian.

“Will you tell me what happened to you?” Nathaniel asked. “Don’t I get at least a little credit?”

This time, it was Serena’s turn to sigh. She didn’t look at him as she shared, “I don’t know if you knew, but I fainted the day I resigned from Kline BioSolutions. That was the day I found out I was pregnant.”

Nathaniel’s world froze.

His vision blurred.

That day, when he had taken Serena to the hospital, it hadn’t been stress alone. She had been carrying their children.

Silence stretched between them.

Regret flooded Nathaniel’s chest. He wished he could turn back time, but… that was impossible. He could only move forward and try to make up for his mistakes.

After a moment, he spoke again. “So… All is

“Alisa, Serena corrected, finally meeting his gaze. “I named her after Alice, She’s Sebastian’s twin ”

“sot have a son and a daughter,” Nathaniel murmured. A falut siile tugged at his lips as he recalled his brief encounter with Alisa. ‘No wonder All’s presence never bothered me.’

“Why didn’t you “He swallowed. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Why?” Serena shot back. “Do I really need to answer that? You let me. You said you never loved me. You said our marriage was a lie. What made you think I could trust you with my children? You made me believe we had no future.” t

“Even when you helped me search for Alice, I decided to fully let go” Serena added. “Because Vanessa told me she was pregnant with your child.”

Nathaniel’s hand clenched into a fist. Vanessa would answer for that, eventually. But right now, Sebastian came first.

More than anything, he knew this was his fault. Everything that happened between him and Serena was his fault.

“I was alone, Nathan,” Serena said quietly. Her chest rose and fell as she spoke, a tear slipping down her cheek. “I lost Alice. I lost everything. The only thing that kept me alive was my babies.”

Seeing her cry again shattered him.

His chest tightened, breath coming hard.

He had done this to her.

‘How much did she suffer, carrying the twins alone?’ he wondered

“I almost lost Sebastian and Alisa,” Serena admitted. “Because I was depressed, emotionally and physically drained.”

“But someone saved me,” she continued. “Instead of taking that flight to Oakridge City, I went to Rexam, where I stayed in the hospital to recover.”

“Silas?” Nathaniel asked. “Silas saved you? How did you meet?”

“No,” Serena said. “It was Xavier Dorian.”

Xavier Dorian.

Nathaniel cursed himself inwardly. ‘Why didn’t I think of finding Xavier?’

Xavier had lost contact with both Serena and Alice in the past. Nathaniel knew he had never approved of their marriage, so he hadn’t considered him.

“Xavier happened to be in Velmon that night at the airport, looking for me,” Serena explained. “He saw me. He pulled me out of the boarding line and brought me to Rexam. He… saved me.”

“He works for VanderMed Technologies,” she added. “That’s how I met the Vanders.”

“That’s how you met Silas…” Nathaniel hesitated, then asked, “Do the children think he’s their father? Will I even get a chance to be that person for them?”
