With that, Mrs. Gable bent down and scooped up the entire box of imported chocolates.
Watching her expensive treats get taken away, Sylvie's face darkened.
Losing the chocolates was one thing, but those candies were laced!
Moreover, they were incredibly expensive. She had been hoarding them, reluctant to eat them herself. If Nova hadn't started losing weight and looking visibly slimmer over the past few days, she never would have wasted something so pricey just to tempt her.
Beside her, Nova watched Sylvie's scheme fall apart and calmly sat back down.
Mrs. Gable was notorious for having a sweet tooth. Those luxurious chocolates would definitely end up in the teacher's stomach.
Nova couldn't wait to see how Sylvie would clean up this mess once her secret was exposed.
The moment the bell rang for the passing period, Sylvie rushed to the staff office to apologize to Mrs. Gable.
Seeing Sylvie's seemingly sincere remorse, Mrs. Gable didn't scold her further. However, Sylvie's eyes remained glued to the box of chocolates resting on the teacher's desk.
"Mrs. Gable," Sylvie began hesitantly, "Nova really loves those chocolates. Could I possibly take them back to give to her?"
"Isn't Nova on a diet? You shouldn't be pushing junk food on her," Mrs. Gable said earnestly. "You need to focus on your studies. I'm keeping these to teach you a lesson. No more passing things around during class."
Realizing she wasn't getting the box back, Sylvie opened her mouth but hesitated.
She couldn't exactly confess that she had stuffed pills into the centers of the candies, could she?
Mrs. Gable glanced at her. "What is it? Was there something else?"
"No... nothing else. Goodbye, Mrs. Gable."
A look of pure annoyance crossed Caleb's face.
Oblivious to his irritation, Sylvie looked up at him pleadingly. "Caleb, Nova really loves those chocolates, but she's been ignoring me lately. Could you help me get them back from the teacher?"
"It's just a box of chocolate. Nova has plenty of money for that."
Just hearing Nova's name made Caleb lose his patience. He looked at Sylvie and warned, "You need to keep your distance from Nova from now on. Did you forget what happened at the pool?"
"That was just an accident..."
"Did you forget you told me Nova dragged you into the water? She's had it out for you from the start! You don't need to be friends with someone like her."
Thrilled that Caleb was defending her, Sylvie couldn't help but ask about something that had been bothering her. She had noticed Nova being dropped off in a series of luxury cars recently. "Caleb, I wanted to ask... is Nova's family really rich? I've seen her getting picked up in different high-end cars every day. They must be wealthy, right? Are you two... childhood sweethearts?"
