He had expected Nora to quietly play the role of Mrs. Hayes and keep her distance from Giselle.

But she just couldn't do it.

The woman was rotten with petty jealousy to her core.

He had warned Nora more than once that Giselle was his sister, the most important person in his life. He would not tolerate anyone bullying her—not even his own wife.

But Nora never listened.

She was narrow-minded and vindictive, constantly crying over trivial things and accusing Giselle of 'targeting' her.

Gideon closed his eyes, his grip tightening violently around his glass.

He could tolerate Nora's mediocrity and her occasional tantrums, but he absolutely refused to tolerate her hostility toward Giselle.

Giselle had grown up attached to him. She was innocent, sweet, and relied on him entirely.

And Nora?

Relying on the late grandfather's favoritism and her status as his wife, Nora had frequently given Giselle attitude behind closed doors. She was so petty that she constantly competed with a spoiled young girl for meaningless attention.

Nora always threw her weight around as the legal wife, treating Giselle like an enemy. If Giselle accidentally ruined one of her sketches, Nora would explode. If Giselle visited the office too often, Nora would sulk at home. She didn't even want him to visit Giselle when the girl was sick with a fever.

Giselle was innocent, and Nora's hostility always brought her to tears.

Nora had an entire family backing her—parents, a brother—she had everything she could ever ask for. But Giselle only had him.

Wasn't it completely natural for him to favor and protect Giselle? As a sister-in-law, Nora lacked even an ounce of grace. She was totally unreasonable.

As for the slap at the banquet, Gideon felt fully justified. If Nora hadn't aggressively shoved Giselle to the ground, making her cry so miserably, he wouldn't have intervened. He was simply fulfilling his duty as an older brother to protect his sister from being bullied.

"As long as you're having fun. How's the weather there? Are you eating properly?"

"Everything's perfect! I just miss you a little. Gideon, I'm flying back the day after tomorrow. Will you pick me up at the airport?"

"Of course. I'll clear my schedule and be the first one at the arrivals gate."

They chatted for a few more minutes until Giselle's friends called her away, and Gideon finally hung up.

He glanced around the empty living room, the previous discomfort entirely gone.

As for Nora...

Let her struggle out there for a few more days. Once Giselle was back, his focus would return to the family estate. By then, he would have plenty of time to deal with his disobedient wife.
