Her fingers didn't stop flipping the pages for a single second.

The light in his eyes dimmed fractionally. The fingers hanging at his sides clenched into slight fists, before he quickly constructed an out for himself.

"Okay."

His tone remained so eerily gentle it was unsettling, completely devoid of any embarrassment or rage from the rejection:

"If you don't feel like going out, I'll have them deliver the food here tomorrow."

He maintained that deeply indulgent attitude, acting as though no matter what absurd demands she made, or how coldly she treated him, he would absorb it all infinitely.

"Get some rest."

With that, he didn't force his presence in her bedroom any longer.

He turned, pushed open the wooden door, stepped out quietly, and pulled it shut tightly behind him.

Shortly after, the faint sound of footsteps echoed from the living room, followed by the soft rustle of someone sinking into the sofa cushions.

This impossibly arrogant man was actually willing to guard the cheap sofa in her rundown apartment, absolutely refusing to leave.

The apartment slipped back into a dead silence.

Nora closed the old magazine she hadn't genuinely read a single page of.
