The Love I Begged For Was Never Real novel Chapter 472

Gideon's gaze lingered on Nora's pale, icy face, every word he spoke dripping with intense sincerity and desperation.

Sitting at the dining table, Nora listened to the man's cautious apologies without a single ripple of emotion in her heart.

*Next time.*

The phrase sounded utterly ridiculous coming from Gideon's mouth.

They had already settled every debt and grievance between them. There was no 'next time.'

This flimsy apology could never bridge the bottomless chasm that separated them.

With a dismissive "I remembered wrong," he tried to gloss over years of blatant indifference. Only after she was completely dead inside, entirely shattered, did he suddenly think to say he wanted to slowly learn what she liked.

It was too late.

Everything was far too late.

He didn't understand what she truly wanted, nor did he care about what she had lost.

She didn't need him to understand her, and she certainly didn't need his apologies.

Nora stood up.

"There's no need."

She dropped the cold words.

"I don't need you to satisfy any of my needs."

Nora stared down at the man sitting by the table. "My only need right now is for you to get the hell out of my house."

She turned and walked toward the bedroom, the door slamming shut heavily behind her with a muffled thud.

She turned the lock, twisting the deadbolt as far as it would go.

Outside the door, Gideon made no move to stop her.
