The Love I Begged For Was Never Real novel Chapter 484

The elderly woman's tone was laced with endless longing. Her cloudy eyes gazed at the brightly colored blooms in the shop, as if looking right past them into some distant memory.

Hearing her request, Nora immediately dropped what she was doing. She hurried over and carefully guided the woman to sit on a wooden chair nearby.

"Ma'am, please have a seat and rest for a moment. Have something to drink."

Nora poured her a cup of warm barley tea, settling her in with a soft, patient voice.

"Just wait right here. I'll wrap the most beautiful bouquet for you right away."

"Oh, alright. Thank you so much, sweetheart."

The woman held the cup, a faint light flickering in her cloudy eyes.

Nora walked over to the flower stands and carefully selected a few of the most vibrant, full-bodied pink and purple carnations. Taking them in hand, she meticulously pruned the excess leaves.

Sitting in his usual corner, Gideon watched her busy silhouette, a flash of disappointment crossing his eyes.

He stood up, his long legs carrying him to the counter. He reached out, wanting to hand her the wrapping paper and ribbon from the desk.

Sensing his approach, Nora instantly froze.

"Don't touch my things."

She shot him an icy glare, the warning clear in her voice.

Gideon's hands locked rigidly in midair, his dark pupils contracting violently.

He didn't want to make her angry. He didn't want to break the fragile peace they had finally established.

The hands that used to control empires hovered in the air for a few agonizing seconds before they pulled back, dropping dejectedly to his sides, weighed down by endless loneliness and guilt.

Nora withdrew her gaze and went back to processing the flowers.

Clenching her jaw, she ignored the deep ache in her joints and trimmed the stems evenly.
