Gideon's voice was low and gentle, laced with pure indulgence and adoration.
His long fingers reached out to tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
"Do your hands still ache? The doctor said you need to use the hot compress more today. Running out like this, the wind will make you uncomfortable. Why didn't you rest a little longer at home?"
Looking at the man inches from her face, Nora could smell the crisp, cool scent clinging to him.
Sitting across from them, Vincent watched Gideon's brazen display of intimacy, his face flushing with awkwardness.
He stood up, attempting to salvage his image in front of Nora.
"Excuse me, sir, but she just sat down to rest, and she hasn't even had a bite of the pastries yet."
Vincent forced himself to speak, wanting to show that he cared about her well-being.
Gideon turned his head slowly.
His dark, bottomless eyes locked onto Vincent's face, completely devoid of warmth.
Under that piercing gaze, a layer of cold sweat immediately broke out on Vincent's forehead. The rest of his sentence lodged squarely in his throat, refusing to come out.
Gideon pulled his gaze away and looked back at Nora.
"Outside food isn't clean. Eating it will just upset your stomach. I had someone prepare a nourishing soup, they'll bring it over shortly. Be a good girl, don't just eat things from questionable sources."
"Excuse me, sir."
Vincent interrupted Gideon, his tone tinged with defensiveness. "These pastries are from the oldest bakery in town. They are perfectly clean. Ms. Xavier works very hard running this shop alone. I'm merely here to help out as a friend."
"A friend."
Gideon turned the word over slowly in his mouth, a cruel curve tugging at the corner of his lips.
He straightened up, naturally grabbing Nora's wrist and pulling her up from the wooden chair.
"Thank you for helping move the boxes, Mr. Shaw."
Gideon spoke politely, yet his tone carried a distinct air of dismissal.
He turned around, fully shielding Nora behind his broad frame, blocking her from Vincent's view entirely.
"I am Nora's husband. I won't trouble outsiders with my wife's affairs."
Vincent's face changed color.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Love I Begged For Was Never Real
Storyline is good..but author is wasting time on character's thoughts.why r u streching chapters it's really really boring and annoying.conversation between them childish.she is only saying him get out n what right do u have ..not telling him what he did to her not questioning him..demanding answer. And what happened to him why sudden change of heart care to explain author.....
For the past few chapters either she is sick or he is. It is slightly boring. Author pls let them talk about the issues , she is not at all scolding him.. every scoldings are playing in her mind only. We want some talk between them....
I am also thinking the same....
Has he mistaken Nora as Giselle?...
What happened to him🤔 did he forget everything?...
Hey can u also upload the book " woke up married to my cheating ex"....
Does he know the orphan girl is actually Nora?...
So is he trying to justify everything? At wat rite??? Wer were he wen she needed him the most.......
Haha finally going to see redemption...
I don’t think reborn will happen in this novel. It will be full of her blood only. Actually The title should be changed to only Nora’s suffering instead the love I begged was never real....
